These cars are so fun, and capable in the snow, once i could get around other motorists, ( which were ALL AWD vehicles) it was fun! and smooth sailing on snow covered highways, and cloverleafs! on my way to work today!

 

Good tires and proper driving technique ftw! I'm about to order a new winter set .

 

Got about 10 inches saturday night here in Wisconsin a little north of Green Bay. It was her first test in deep snow since I got her, and she did great. Only limiting factor was all the snow that couldn't go under came up over the hood onto the windshield, obstructing my view. Other than that, she slid around less than my dads truck.

 

Whoa, a fellow V36 owner in Northeast Wisconsin! I'm in Oshkosh so it was mainly sleet, but mine did excellent. It's a very surefooted car, much more so than my old CTS.

 

I'm in Southeastern Wisco, just south of Milwaukee. I just have property in Marinette county.

 

Another Wisconsinite, i'm in the Fox Cities. With the snow over the years, I had the lower engine tray (splash guard) replaced since the oil change door started dragging when I was backing up. Had it replaced with an aluminum TBW tray and it's been solid ever since.

 

Hi, new 2008 XS owner here that lives in Chicago area. What tire/wheel combo are you guys going with for winter? I have a 60 miles round trip commute. I brought some Blizzak for my 08 Sonata several years ago and they make a huge difference. I went one tire size down from 17 to 16 on the Sonata. Should I do the same for the G35XS, 18 to 17?

 

Blizzacks would be overkill in my opinion. When I drove through the 10 inches of snow back in November my tires were the same ones that were on there when I bought the car a year prior and had at least 30k miles on them. Currently I run Goodyear Assurance All Seasons and couldn't be happier with them

 

You must be a better driver or daring (or both) than me. I feel like I have better traction on the fwd Sonata with Blizzak than my wife's Honda Pilot AWD with all-season Michelins. The G35 current tires are the Pirelli Cinturato Strada which looks to be good all season tires from what I've read. Guess I'll give it a whirl and see how well it drives in the snow. I don't mind not having to shell out 1K for winter tires and wheels.

 

it was due to no other options available at the time. She handled the snow no problem. Only issue was snow coming up over the hood and onto the windshield. Had no issues with steering or traction.

 

Yes, i also run around with the stock 17's 225/55, ya, they are a little >wide< for winter, but the car makes up for it! i am on Kumho w-rated ecsta platiums.....

 

Although I run all seasons (17" Conti DWS) year round, there is no way an all season tire will compare with a dedicated winter tire for snow/ice traction in the colder temps. The "S" on the Contis also doesn't apply as the tire wears. I have a winter set for my SUV and that would be the one going on a long trip where cold/snowy road conditions are expected. Had I lived more north, ie in western NY or a place like Syracuse, I would definitely invest in a winter set for the G.

 

Agreed, dedicated snow tires will always perform better than all seasons. I'm not too far away from where tranman is at(maybe an hour north) and so far I haven't seen conditions where I truly needed snow tires. If I lived/commuted up north where I was driving through those 10 inches of snow I would definitely have a set of winter tires. But it's nice to know that I'll be good to go if that situation arises again.
