Timing chain cover leak?

Hello everyone. The time has finally come for me to fix all the leaks this car has. I have done most but my main problem currently is the timing chain cover gasket? The car has been leaking for years and i thought it was only the vavle cover gasket but i was wrong. Has anyone had this leak here before? Or could it be something else going on?

Another sign when this first happened could have been when one of my bearing came loose and fell off the car while i was driving due to all the oil. I just replaced it and kept driving. But 2 years later now i noticed my idle tensioner was shaking bad and one bearing rattling again.

You can do a bit of preventative maintenance at the same time by replacing oil gallery gaskets while redoing the RTV on the timing cover.

or just accept the leak and keep moving forward 😃

I just watched a youtube video of the oil gallery gasket replacement on a G37 and wow that looks like alot of work. They did it by removing the bumper cover and radiator/condenser and all that from the front to have good access. Wonder how much shops charge to do that job. This guy was doing it at 100k miles. I'm at 293k and wonder if mine needs to be done. I have oil leaks and assume it's the valve cover but maybe I'm in the same bucket as this poster....

Wow!!! Good to hear the high mileage report.

I’m still only at around 128k miles.. purchased new… engine still doesn’t use any noticeable oil and have yet to find a gasket weep, leak, or seep

lol at this mileage you're better off just leaving it alone, imho. i'm at 265k myself, and if my front cover was leaking, i'd leave it alone. i did replace the water pump, chain, tensioner, guides, gaskets, etc. at around 250k or so. the job isn't bad, just tedious (you have to remove everything around it - that's what takes the most time). you certainly do not have to remove the bumper/condenser/etc.

So i got everthing apart and it looks like my power steering o rings are leaking everwhere as well as you can see in the picture. I got new pullys and tensioner. Now i am waiting for the gasket for the passanger side cover. I also just hit 270000 miles 😅 car drives amazing still.

I am wondering if the power steering leak is what was causing oil everywhere due to it splashing on the pullys?

most likely. clean everything as well as you can and see if it comes back.

So i replaced the two gaskets and new lower hose and found out that my power steering line was leaking bad. When i took the line off to inspect i found out that it was missing a copper washer on the bottom of the banjo bolt. Apon looking further i seen a copper washer sitting next to the front strut bar. So i think when i got my water pump worked on years ago they forgot to put the bottom washer back on.

So i am wondering if all that was just power steering fluid 😅

Bad news. Its leaking and it looks like its leaking more.

So the oil leak looks like it is coming from under this tensioner bracket thing. any ideas?

can't tell sh* from the pic, but the only thing there is the vvt/vct cover (aka "the fun" one). spray a ton of brake clean and see if you can tell where it's coming from.

pretty bad to be honest. i get low on oil in 2 weeks. time. it only leaks once the car turns off after a drive. It taste like oil lol...

Would you happen to know if the tensioner bracket bolt holds oil of any sort?

i don't believe so. my hunch is that it is that vct cover, unfortunately. you will have to move the p/s pump out of the way (don't think you have to unhook the lines) to get to the two bolts on the pass side that hold that tensioner bracket in place. you can loosen them up and the bracket should slide out. no idea why they had to "over-engineer" it on that side...

I know right haha. Yeah ima try to get back in there again and see what happened. Maybe i under tightened the bolts. I did noticed though that one bolt was helicoid. so maybe that has something to do with it. thanks for the insight though man! very much appreciated.
