I have no idea

It could be a placeholder for something currently in development.

Looks too elaborite for a place holder...
Place holders are usually just blanks, like the rectangle above it.

The overall shape, lines/illumination on the ends & the depression in the middle??
Looks like it was designed for something:confused:

Maybe it charges the intelligent key?

no it doesnt actually plug in i think it hits a button or something so you can turn the car on if your key fob is dead on batteries since there is no place to put the key. but you can use the key still to enter the car if it is dead.

Thats a great Idea, and Lexus IS350 doesnt have that and I know people there always wonder how they would start there car if the Intelligent Key Died on them

That's is correct, it's for the I-Key fob.

So if the battery in the I-key dies, you use one of your spare keys to enter the vehicle and then what ? You press that "button" to start ? That doesn't make sense. Why not just press the start button ? Doesn't the system know you've gained access to the vehicle by using a spare key ? I thought it was a slot to insert the I-key when the battery is dead so the system knows you have it and you'll be able to start your vehicle when you push the start button. That would make sense. I think that's what you meant. Your post was just a little confusing.

It's to activate the "Bat Signal"

That's what I thought. I was just confused by the post, maybe English is his/her second language. Maybe someone from Infiniti can tell us.

The "spare" key is usually intergrated into the intelligent Key-fob...or at least it is on the Lexus. I hope they come out with a nice-looking key-fob at least...I think it's a minor detail that can make a big difference in satisfaction. If you've ever seen a VW/ Audi key-fob...you'll know what I mean. It has a nice slow-moving fold-out key extension....almost seems bearing driven.

Funny thing is...I don't thinkt he Lexus IS has any keyholes on the doors...so I don't know how you would get in if your batt. died :O

dampfnudel Apr 24, 2006 10:37 PM

The spare key is integrated into the intelligent Key-fob just like with the Lex.

If it's the same as my M, Ian, it's a receptacle for the intellikey that you use to start the car until the dead key batts are replaced.
