"new posts" question

In other forums that I visit (delphi) when I click on a thread it will take me to the first post that I haven't read. So if there are 100 posts in the thread I don't have to scroll through 98 of them to get me to the first one I haven't seen yet. I know there is the "new Posts" feature on the top bar, but when you click on that it just gives you every thread that has a new post in since your last visit. You still have to scroll through all the posts you have already read. I have looked in the control panel edits, and I can't seem to find anything to change. Am I missing it, or is it not possible with this forum?

That would be nice but you might get a lot of old stuff too.

I always hit last page. And scroll back. Or go to user cp and click on your last post in the thread and it will take you there.

no, that is why I was asking. With the other forum, you don't read any old stuff. It must be done with cookies or something (that I am completely clueless about). The only time the thread title is darker is when there is a post you haven't read in it. When you click on the thread title it takes you to the first post you haven't read, skipping over all those you have. So if you have already read 25 posts of a 30 post thread, it takes you to post 26 when you click the thread title. You have been on the this forum a long time, if it was possible I am sure you would know it, so it is safe for me to believe it isn't. Thanks for your posts.

yes, I agree. I do that a lot too, but then you end up reading answers to questions that haven't been asked yet. There is no way around it though on threads that contain 100s of posts, you have to go to the end and work your way back.

I was hoping I was just missing the setting that would change it. Thanks for your help.

OK, am I missing something here? If you open a thread, right above the user name in the first post in yellow it says "View First Unread". If you click that, it takes you to the first post you haven't read.

Not sure if this is what you want...but, here it goes anyway...

User CP > Edit Options > Thread Display Mode > Linear - Newest First
