Whos online, no worky

Till yesterday (6/11/09), I could see at the bottom of all sub-forums, who is in that particular sub-forum. I could also at the bottom of a thread, see who is reading that particular thread.
That feature sees to have disappeared... atleast for me. Whasup with that?

The "currently viewing" feature takes up quite a bit of resources on the server. Since we've been encountering performance issues recently, IB has turned this feature off for now to alleviate some of the stress on the servers. Hopefully it will be turned back on again soon.

^ Yup, I can see the code (which seems to be php), continuously checking on each sub-forum n thread, who's viewing it, can definitely be a stress point for the web app server.
Thanks for the info.

PHP sucks. You should rewrite the site in .NET. No just kidding that would be horrible. Microsoft sucks.

You don't have to like MS, but .NET is a pretty good platform. I'd take .NET or Java over PHP any day....but considering the site is running on probably the best forum software out there, and something IB has heavily invested in I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Anyway, hopefully IB will enable it once they are able to get the site's performance under control.
