Posting priviledges for new members

Your posting requirements for new members are a little extreme (45 days AND 100 posts). I am a member on several online forums and yours are by far the most extreme requirements for posting. I understand the need for minimizing the risk of scammers, but my specific request is this:

Allow new members to post in the Want to Buy section of the classifieds. Restricting posting rights in this area to existing members only serves to hurt the existing membership base by not allowing new members (like myself) to post a Want to Buy ad.

In my case, I am looking to buy a daily driver and by not allowing me to post the WTB ad, you are reducing the number of potential buyers to your existing membership base who are selling, or thinking of selling their cars (and parts).

Thanks for the great site!

If you're that desperate to buy and sell stuff, hit up eBay. The marketplace is a place for *members* to buy and sell, not as a lure for members to join the board.

Personally, I'd like to see it with even more strict requirements, so that you'd know you were dealing with participating members instead of people padding up their postcount.

Well, thanks for the warm welcome. To claim that my interest to post Wtb ads is a sign of desperation sure makes a lot of assumptions about who I am, what my intentions are and that I have no real intentions of being a contributing member.

WHEN I buy my car (from here or from somewhere else) and continue learning from other forum members (and maybe teaching a thing or two to others) I'll certainly do my part to make new members feel welcome.

After all, this IS a free online forum, not a private golf club!

^Way to take offense at a non offensive post!

We're not trying to run you (or anyone else) off, but Wrathernaut has a point.
Besides, if you want to bypass the post/day requirement, that's easy... show you're serious by dropping $30 on a premier membership.

In the last few years, I've had excellent success with this site's marketplace (check the iTrader). So if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

A wise man once said "Beggars can't be choosers".

As NFSP G35 pointed out. Bypassing the "board participant" requirement is as easily as dropping a few bucks. Consider it a time/money investment in all the time that you'll save from help from this board.

I can see everyone's point. I simply wanted to offer a suggestion that might likely help things for everyone, existing and new members alike.

I would join if there were an alternative to Paypal...I don't use the service.

I don't think the OP was trying to take offense/be offensive by the replies.
It seems to me, that he's attempting to express his opinion regarding this sites somewhat restrictive rules (which I tend to agree with, btw).

**sidebar** I think perhaps he was responding to the lack of "welcome aboard!" or the likes as is usually seen during a newbie's initial post(s).

I really like this site, and as a car enthusiast of MANY different makes/models (MINIs, Hondas, Nissans, Subarus, etc) I've seen and been on many other car websites too. It's interesting to me to see how widely the rules vary from site to site.

ALL enthusiast websites have pros and cons, all have wonderful and helpful folks who go out of their way to welcome (and help) others, as well as the occasionaly weinie post trolls who just want to make life difficult for others.

I can only assume there must be a real problem on this site with trolling/spammers/scammers.

IMHO, one way to legitimize transactions here (which is very common in several other enthusiast sites out there) is to have a "vouch" section for transactions of buyers/sellers.

Nothing wrong with suggesting an "upgraded" membership, but just something about "buying" one's way out of the rules, seems questionable.

It should be more to offset costs to keep the site running and to show appreciation for the hard work of the site admin/moderators (many of whom, atleast on other smaller sites I've been on, spend their own time and $$$$ to keep the site going).

This is a great site, with helpful folks and great information

Just my 2 cents.

I've been on many other forums also and I've not yet seen such restrictions till here. really annoying if you ask me. What's wrong with "leisure" members coming in and out to post about this or that. Or ask about this or that? it's the free internet... get over it.

It's also free advertising for you to sell your crap using someone else's website.
Nobody is stopping you from posting your stuff for sale on some other free site (ie craigslist) or a site you pay for (ie ebay) or dropping a few $ to go premiere.

The requirements that are in place are there for a reason, they're not going anywhere, and if you don't like it, quite honestly, nobody cares.

I swear, so many people today have a serious entitlement complex. You guys should count it fortunate that this forum even allows people to buy/sell at all, Because some don't.

If all else fails, y'all can meet me in my warehouse to "discuss" alternative solutions.

And for pity's sake, whatever you do, do NOT follow Mikey into a dark warehouse for ANY REASON!

It's all fun and games until you find yourself pointing out on the doll where he touched you
