Too many sub-forums
Too many sub-forums
I just wanted to post feedback for an otherwise great site. I've been a member of numerous forums, most primarily, Maxima.org, and transitioning to Driver has been trying. This site just has WAY too many sub forums. It's almost impossible to know where to post, view, or start a thread. I can't imagine that all of these sub-forums are necessary, it makes administration of the site a nightmare, and browsing just as difficult.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, it's just downright confusing.
For instance, Media share is a subforum in EACH subforum, that's silly. Not to mention, the media share seems to be more of a progress thread sub-forum, so why not make ONE Progress thread sub forum for ALL G's, and ONE media share for ALL G's.
On a positive note, the DIY section is genius. You don't have a DIY forum for every different model and year of G, you just have ONE DIY section that is more strictly monitored.
Not being able to embed Youtube videos is a bit of a drag as well.....
All the best!!

^ Youtube embed worked here. I think that in some forums/subforums you can't embed but don't quote me on that.
IMO (and I imagine some wouldn't agree), the different sub-forums are great because if you are looking only for coupe pictures or only for sedan pictures it's already segregated out so you don't have to sift through a ton of threads not relevant to you. I imagine it'd be quite a mess if every picture thread on Driver existed in one giant forum.
As a sedan owner, I have no desire to go through two coupe picture threads for every one sedan picture thread or vice versa.
I would think the main general media share is generally for events that have a mix of coupes/sedans, or for showing off wheels or other misc. picture threads.
I see you've only been here for about a month or so. There's always a learning curve when visiting a new site - generally site navigation usually gets easier & becomes more second nature over time. I've been here for well over 6 years and finding things are pretty easy for me (now, and also by smarter searching). The search function is unwieldy for most but you have to know how to work it right (use "+" and "search thread titles only" to refine searches). The best way (IMO) to get used to Driver is to keep spending time browsing the massive amount of info here & use the RLQ Thread for general questions if you can't figure something out. Members are generally helpful as long as it looks like you put effort into your inquiries and not ask about something that's been asked over & over again.

I agree that like anything, time is needed to adjust. And also, that change would receive many disputes, as it always does, even when it's for the better.
I agree on most fronts, that there's a delicate line between keeping things organized vs. cluttered, and having things over organized to the point that it's in dis-array.
It seems somewhere along the line, things got into the latter section. Splitting general discussion and media should be done at the primary screen, then I agree, further splitting into sedan/coupe and generation from there would make sense.
Splitting into Generations and models before splitting the type of forum media makes no sense. It's backwards. You arrange the type of forum FIRST, THEN split into applications.
Perhaps you're right and I just need time to adjust. FYI, I was a member here as TUNERMAXIMA3000 for quite a while prior to changing to TUNERMAX (when I finally made the switch from a Maxima to the G).
Just constructive critisism, I'm sure it's not something that will change. I just personally find navigating the site to be a huge task that simply isn't necessary.
I personally love the layout and at first it was tough to get around the site but the format of this site was easy to get accustomed to. I can't imagine it in a different way. Only trouble i have is using the [IMG] feature. Only way it works for me is if i have a link to it on a website. I'd really like to learn how to post the FULL SIZE image from my pictures folder.
Nonetheless MAJOR UPS on the site !

We could eliminate the sub sections and go back to something like this.

I actually really like the way the forum is organized, particularly with the media sub section in each section. Makes it easier to know where to look when I'm trying to find something.
honestly, I think in some instances it could be even more granular than it is. For example, some DIY's don't apply to the sedan vs. coupe (or viceversa) but for the most part that's ok.
If all our different media share sections were all clumped into one, it would be so freaking hard to keep up with anything because stuff would be pushed 2-3 pages deep in just one day.

I can agree with the premis. I'll do my best to get used to it! I do love the overall organization.
And as funny as the old site link is, the main page is much more friendly. After that, it's a nightmare.

I'll get used to it ! Thanks for the replies on this one.
Any answer on the Youtube embed Canuck?
