Skylines in Japan start with R's= R32, R33, R34
the G35 is stated as V's= Skyline V350GT coupe & V35 sadan

The 2008/2009 GTR Will Be the Nissan Skyline "R35"

Infiniti is now doing what BMW has done with the 3-series, releasing the coupe 1 model year later. Its expected the coupe will be released late spring/ early summer of 2007 and the hard-top convertible comes out that fall as the new 3 series coupe will also be available in a hard top convertible.
Also, the next gen coupe may get a V8 option as the Lexus IS is coming out with a coupe with a V8 option. This V8 is most likely since it's final that the GTR will be a twin-turbo V6 and badged Nissan, not Infiniti. More evidence to support this V8 is that Toyota is resurrecting the Supra with a 3.5L V6 putting out 350 bhp and will have 400+ bhp V8 option. All this is to dig in Nissan's profits from the success of the Z, which now we have to believe will too have a V8 option. If the Z gets it, we know the G coupe will get it

While the thought of a V8 is enticing.....
I'm not sure if I like the idea of making the car even heavier than it is now.

A 3.5tt or 3.7na would be lighter.

Exactly!
The new G35 coupe & 335i coupe will be going head to head for my next car.
Weight, handling & vehicle dynamics will be high on my priority list.
