No track can give the same experience as the 'ring. The varied speed, the elevation changes, the track surface changes, etc. There is no substitute for testing over a wide range of track surfaces/altitudes/temperatures/etc.

However, I do think you are right in they played it up as much as possible (without looking obvious) to get the "going after 911 turbo" and "tested in Porsche's backyard" hype going.

It's about time that someone had the ***** to take on Porsche. The big thing that Porsche has going for them is image, and Nissan didn't help themselves by badging the car as a Nissan instead of an Infiniti. Although I have no data to back me up, I'd estimate that at least 95% of existing Porsche owners wouldn't consider buying a Nissan regardless of its performance.

but it's 95% of porshe owners in the USA.

others countries prob would buy a nissan

so... where's the beef. label the friggin car outside the USA as a nissan and inside the usa as an infiniti. "this is your brain on drugs, any questions ?"

*shrug*

Biggest thing Porsche has is image?

Drive any of the GT line and I think you will quickly understand Porsche has much more then mere image attracting its loyal buyers

You are missing my point. Sure the Porsche GT series, turbos, and even the 997S are all outstanding cars, but if Nissan came out with a car that had comparable performance or even exceeded the performance of a Porsche Turbo, I would be astounded if more than a couple of percent of existing Porsche owners would even consider buying the Nissan, much less actually buy one. And the reason is because of the image that Porsche has and which Nissan doesn't.

So it will take more than Nissan building a car with superior performance at an attractive price to take away market share from Porsche. And as I posted earlier having the Nissan badge won't help matters. I'm not certain that even an Infiniti badge would help, but it would be a step in the right direction.

What i hope to see...

300+ HP (dual intake thing from sedan - obv)
reworked headlights (LEDs soemwhere would RULE!)
Nicer interior (like new sedan and M's)
Brembos!!!
Lighted door sills
Heated/Cooled seats
Rear Camera (for backing up)
Nice looking 19" wheels for the sport package

If that stuff makes the final cut, id easily drop 40+ on a nice new IP Coupe
