That picture is awesome, love the sport bumper.

Now, I'm not saying that the G37 is a better car, but this review has a couple of portions with suspect language:

1. How could they test an Automatic and say that the BMW shifts better? I couldn't believe they actually put in writing that they didn't test the manual and yet were able to draw that conclusion. They actually say "but our long-term G35 sedan's manual is soooo bad I can't believe a body style change is going to fix it". A body style change???

2. The whole paragraph on leasing and higher resale value? If the guy had a half a brain, he'd know that the current G35 Coupe has a higher leasing resale value than the 335 coupe. I've done this homework a few times as I am in the market for a 335/G37. The 335 is significantly more than the current G35 coupe (buying AND leasing)

another huge factor that not many have considered.. and it is very surprising oversight..

RELIABILITY

We all know how notorious the reliability and maintainence is on the BMWs.. now throw a TT in there, ramp up the engine temp a couple hundred degrees and you just introduced tons of new ways for various components to go bye-bye

Although obviously we don't really know whether the 335 or G37 is going to hold up better in the long run, I think we can all agree that each company's track records speak for themselves.

And if the idiot author of the article can compare the "manual shifters" of both cars and draw a definite conclusion.. WITHOUT TESTING EITHER ONE (a steptronic 335 versus a manual G35sedan and an auto G37 = 335 manual > G37 manual ) then I sure as hell can go into theoreticals like reliability

So is a 335i... if not even faster.

That Edmunds article was absolutely horrible. How does such an ignorantly biased review even get posted by a rather well respected site such as Edmunds?

that 335 vs. g37 article is just horrible. im not arguing for/against but the way it's written is just completely unprofessional!

What gets me is that Edmunds already put out an initial review around the Auto Show that stated that the new G37 is going to give BMW "an honest run for it's money".

well it's just the opinion of the editor. it's a voice out of many. he might drive a bimmer himself and that's why he's being unprofessional about it

Three points here:

1. If you want to read our balanced review, read our balanced review. This is a personal blog.

2. We also have a manual shift G37 in the office right now. The shifter is better than the sedan's -- and still not as good as the 3 Series.

3. Pricing: A base 2007 G35 manual costs within $1,000 of a 2007 328i manual. The G35 has more power, and weighs 200 pounds more. We could go into a long discussion of option pricing and straightline performance and steering feel, but in my opinion that 328i (not to mention the 335i) is a more enjoyable car to drive, so that's the one I'll buy despite the pricing at time of purchase or resale. BTW, the Total Cost to Own is within $100 on both cars after three years because of the BMW's free maintainence . Check it out:

Thanks mantis and muscarel for your responses. I understand everything you're both saying. I guess the "what's the truth?" was more of a rhetorical question or discussion point than anythin...but I appreciate the responses
It's crazy how people can have such different responses (opinions) or bias when it comes to editorals. The "what's the truth?" question will be answered (to some degree) for real come July/August and I can't wait. Both cars are fantastic and if I was in the market for one, I'd have a hard time choosing.

Wow. That statement about the 328i being enjoyable, let alone more enjoyable than the G, has me truely flummoxed. The car has absolutely no **** 'n vinegar; no soul.

totally agree... the guy is talkin' out his ***... haha....he says the 335i shifts better in manual cause hes driven the sedan manual? wow..this guy should be let go. Waste of time reading that... =x

I am sure you'll change your mind after getting blown by a 306hp time after time. But seriously, the G35 and 328 belong to different segment despite being called sport sedan. People who enjoy driving will probably go for the G while those who prefer a smooth, gentle and prestige ride will prefer the 328. The G is closer to the 335i in term of performance.
