the car is a slow *** fat machine. let's face it
I believe that the "fat" machine... it does have a lot of weight on it. I certainly don't think it's slow at all. I think being .3 seconds behind a BMW 335i Coupe's twin turbo engine isn't slow at all, especially for all that added weight on the coupe.

im comparing it to my G35 not necessarily the 335i altho that .3 second difference results in a bigger difference in terms of 1/4 mile. plus, i dont buy that BS about infiniti handling better than a bmw. that i wont buy

So I am just wondering outloud here - but wouldn't teh car perform better if Infiniti simply dropped the new VQ37HR and the new tranny into the current G35 Coupe body? The car would be way lighter for one thing, and has more rear space and looks just as good.

Perform as in speed? handling? braking? or as a whole?

'way lighter' ? ? I may not be a mechanic, but is there not a lot of a car's weight in the engine? This is a bigger engine, so would you not be bringing more weight to the 'skinny' G35?

I would wait out the test on the MT to MT, MPG will go up, times will come down (hopefully) and this will be such a close call, any magazine could throw the win to either player. Cost, fit and finish, 1/4 mile, if they used 1 over the other, this would be nearly a split decision every time.

Glad the made a 3 fighter even up, and now it truly is a perspective battle for the buyer. Save $, or go with the segment leader for the last 3 gens and faster model today. Tough arguement when they are so close in performance numbers.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I think they have a big hit on their hands, and I predict it will outsell the G35. Good job Infiniti, its off to the test drive in 2 months.....

What BS? I didn't see anything about Infiniti's handling is better than the BMW's.

I completely agree. This was a VERY tough battle between the two great cars.

No it doesn't. In fact they mentioned more than once that the cars handled similarly, and the 335i had a better skidpad result.

so my question is this...

with rumors of a manufacture ECU upgrade that can provide 30+ hp and torque...

whats planned for the 2008 335i engine... if they bumped it to 330+hp and 330+torque... it wouldnt be pretty for the competition...

ppp

An increase in displacement does not make an engine "bigger" per se. This is a common misconception. The VQ37VHR aside from the addition of VVEL and upgraded internals is essentially a stroker version of the VQ35HR with an 86 mm stroke vs. a stroke of 81.4 mm for the 35DE and 35HR motors.

A lot of people go "oh s**t" when they see larger displacement numbers but that doesn't tell the whole story. The 7.0L LS7 under the hood of the C6 Z06 has the same 4.4 in bore spacing as the smaller displacement 6.0L LS2 and now 6.2L LS3 found under the hoods of base model C6 Corvettes.

Doubt it. Not only do they not have to (the 335i is still the quickest in the segment), but it'll begin to poach on the upcoming M3, which will be a huge launch for BMW. If I had to bet money I would say all '08 changes to the 335i will be minor. Upgraded stereo, oil coolers, etc.

LMAO!!! i completely agree!!! If they would have only put the new motor in the 2003-2007 body style...then it would be an amazing car!
