G37 Base

Yes, there will be some people that buy the just the base model. Wether it be to avoid getting the sunroof, for someone who wants more headroom or that they want to install their own sound system and things like that. I would not want just the base, but some will, everybody has different preferences!

I was surprised to see the base model originally too, but to be honest I don't really count it as the entry level coupe because someone buying a car in this range could probably easily fork the extra little bit to move to the Journey. I think it could possibly be for those who want the bare minimum, maybe as a project/track car since these will probably be the lightest since they aren't burdened with many features.
The 2% estimate doesn't surprise me though, as in Canada we don't even have the option for the base. The lowest G37 model here is a Journey with the premium package. It was that way in the last gen as well, as I remember the base actually had cloth seats, but I think you'd be hardpressed finding one even in the US.

The base version is clearly there to set the price. No one buys a base car. Ok, 2% buy the base car, so practically no one. These cars are not purchased for the race track either as you would rarely see a "showroom stock" G coupe in competition anywhere whether in SCCA, IMSA or whatever.
A base car would probably have to be seriously discounted to sell, making it an even less expensive option for some.....

when i purchased my first coupe back in '04, it was a 6MT but other than that it was "base". Only options were aero package and trunk mat, and I'm assuming leather was standard. Sticker was a shade over $34k, and with my VPP discount it came out to little over $31k. A lady at the dealership called it a "beer can" LOL
