Yeah, I don't like the side sills either...too busy. Overall looks more futuristic, can't wait to see the sedan.

 

It sure doesn't look real conceptual to me. 98% of that car looks production ready except for maybe the rear mirrors, the wheel size, ride height, and maybe some interior touches. Overall it looks ready to wrap and ship. Nissan deserves a pat on the back for making an already sexy car even sexier on the 2nd go round. I imagine the upcoming sedan will more closely match the aggressive lines of the coupe, almost giving it a coupe look, but with 4 doors.

I'm not too sure I like it. It may seem petty, but I don't like the hooked nose, and I'm not too fond of the interior as well. The side sills with the deep bevels are a bit much, and the rear looks like an inverse bangle-ized bimmer. Who knows though. Many of my favorite cars were cars that grew on me; cars that I didn't much like the first go around.

But has anyone picked up on the new marketing direction by Infiniti regarding the g35? I believe this car was referred to simply as the Infiniti Coupe, not necessarily the G35 Coupe. Even the picture from the rear has a license plate stating simply Coupe. Does this hint at a diverging of the product line?

To back this up, there's a new ad in the current Car and Driver for the 06 Coupe. Nowhere in the ad does it refer to it as the *G35 Coupe*, but rather, simply the Coupe. In the ad's text, it mentions other vehicles in Infiniti's line, including the M, and the G35. What piqued my interest was the fact that the reference to the G35 was the Sedan, though the word Sedan didn't make it into the ad.

So, for the sake of argument, let's say there is no more G35 Coupe AND Sedan. Just the sedan(much like BMW's 3/4 series divergeance). If that's the case, will they continue to be built on the same platform, or even the same platform as the Z? That's my greatest concern. If the coupe becomes more than an upscale Z 2+2, and is in fact on a different platform from the sedan, then there goes the aftermarket for the sedan.

Thoughts?

u make no sense, this is only a design concept like the Fuga Concept (M concept). we all know nissan will only use one platform for every FR car. they cant afford to have a platform for each car.

 

Trey - they've been calling it "the coupe" for awhile now. Not sure where they're going with that, but that's been the language for awhile. If I had to guess I'd say they don't want to give away displacement yet by calling it a G37 coupe. Actually, I wouldn't be shocked if we see the 4.5L V8 from the M (re-tuned) in the coupe too. It'd probably be a little anti-climactic of they just said "here's the new G37/G45 coupe".

Just a guess.

"Shiro Nakamura, Infiniti's senior vice president of design, says the Coupe Concept shares its headlamps and taillamps with the upcoming G35 Sedan, which will debut at the New York auto show later this year. He wouldn't admit, however, how close the Coupe Concept is to an eventual production version of the two-door. We suspect it to be very close."

I'd say it's reasonable to suspect this is a very close production version of the coupe as well. The interior is gorgeous but we need to pray they keep the interior lighting dimmer because otherwise you'll wreck your first night on the road with it... The shifter itself is very fresh and a welcome improvement based on what the sedan (I have an '05 X) has kickin' around... I still love my car but I was getting ready to sell the lease and get a loaded 2006 FX35 a few months down the road for some more utility but more importantly the new navigation system and interior... Seeing the Coupe Concept makes me fall more for the Infiniti "Coupe" and sedan for 2007 more than I did when I got my '05 X. If they make the right improvements I could easily see myself in an '07!

 

+1 ^. nissan would make a g37 coupe and sedan and a m35/45 coupe and sedan before they would do away with the g model all together. considering they only have 6 models for 06 that would not make much sense.

 

I was not suggesting that the g would be "done away with", rather I found the new language surrounding the "Coupe" and the G35 Sedan to be at least interesting.

I highly doubt that the sedan will be on a different platform from that of the "Coupe" or the Z. But it is not outside the realm of possibility.

 

This has to be, without question, a definite design winner for Nissan. If the production model holds to 80% of the concept model, this will surely be a runaway hit with the buying public.

 

Don't know that I like it. The front overhang grows which throws off the proportions (and eliminates one of the original G best traits). The interior has still too much shiny (cheap looking) metal-like material. And the rear integrated spoiler is too much like the Bangle-ized BMW 6 (ugly). Maybe the sedan will look better than the coupe, which would be justice.
