Is the OEM alarm standard? If so, how do you activate it?

Standard. It's activated when you lock the car.

I wouldn't even call it an alarm system. It's more of a remote door opener. If you wanted it to do more, install an aftermarket shock sensor to the system.

Yeah... what LjN said... it's not an alarm. It just makes the horn beep and lights flash if someone manually opens the door from inside the vehicle with no key in the ignition after it has been locked via keyfob(for example... if you reach in through an open window and unlock the door and jump in the car, it will make noise). Supposedly it also does this if you were to open the hood with the car locked, but I have never tested that.

There is a cheap mod you can do where you can install a shock sensor under the hood that will make the system into more of an Alarm.

The OEM Theft Deterrent system, in its factory form, will not make any noise if someone comes up to your car and smashes a window in, then grabs something off the seat, kicks a huge dent in the side of the car out of spite, or if someone tries to tow it up onto a flatbed and pull it away.. provided that they don't try to open the door.

To answer your question, that OEM theft deterrent system is activated whenever you click the LOCK button on your keyfob.

To try it out, go roll one of your windows down... then, with the car off, shut the doors and lock the car with the keyfob. Then reach in from the outside through the window and unlock and open the door with your hand... it will trigger the "Alarm".
