Low MPG

I'm getting like 12mpg and its ridiculous. I dont floor it or anything....just normal driving about 5-10 miles a day since school isn't far away. I filled up a full tank and right now at half a tank, its only gone 100miles!?!?!??! Just wondering what you guys were getting and perhaps something might be wrong with my car?

I have an 05 6MT and I average around 13-14 MPG. I do all city driving and all my drives are typically short distances, within 5-10 miles. I usually get about 220 miles between fill ups. I too do not really get on it.

However, whenever I drive on the highway, I get at least 20 MPG.

I average between 18-23mpg depending on how hard I'm pushing my car and how much freeway driving I do...

I think I am getting about the same mpg, like 11-12 and I don't drive it hard at all! I drive a lot of short, short distances and I think that is what is killing me. I am starting to walk more now, and hopefully that will improve it. Does anyone know if this will solve the problem?

well the more you walk the less money you'll spend aside.. heh.. but yea.. you should be able to get over 20 mpg if you're just cruising on the highway

for you guys that are only getting 11-14 mpg and complaining STOP FLOORING IT!! and it will get better. If you are idling for more than 30 seconds then cut your car off. I put 10 gallons at a time in because I go 150-200 miles on half a tank compared to only about 300 miles on a full tank. I don't know why, I gues less weight. That's all city driving too.

I do probably 80% highway driving and the most I've gotten is 21mpg. I don't even want to think what I'd get doing mostly short distance/city.

The mpg rating is trash for our cars and very misleading. I'd be pissed if I was going to be driving this car regularly, but starting from August it's going to be sitting in a garage most of the time (thank god with gas going $5/gal+)..

Ok I know these things don't get the greatest mileage, but mine isn't THAT bad holy cow. I beat the ever living **** out of my car and the worst I ever got was 16-17mpg in town. If I behave I get about 18-19mpg in town, once or twice getting 20mpg. I just took it on its first highway trip yesterday to visit some family, and I have about 220 miles on it and its just a tick below half tank. I want to go fill it up this afternoon before I get any city miles on it and see what I actually got on the highway. I will post up the results then.

Update from my last post - I just got back from Long Island. I filled up right before I got on the highway, and filled up again as soon as I got off the highway back at home. I ended up with 26.4mpg on this tank, and that was averaging between 75-85mph without using cruise control, and having the AC on for about half the trip. Also I was in real bad stop and go traffic through the city near Brooklyn for about 30-45 minutes of the trip. All in all I'm happy with that. Taking the bad traffic out of the equation, I'd say its good for 27-28mpg. My 6-spd Z28 got the same exact mileage on the same exact route in the same conditions, so I am content with that.

For the guys that are getting 11-12 MPG you might want to ask the dealership to reflash your computer for you because that doesn't sound right even for stop and go traffic. I have a 04 6MT and live on a military base my drive to work is 3 miles so that is short distance, and I get around 16-17.

Now I had a 04 Nissan Titan and was hetting 9-10 MPG when everyone on the forum was claiming 13-14, I took it in to the dealer and they reflashed the computer for me, I drove three tanks of gas down before I checked it again and I was getting 12MPG city. I don't know if they'll charge you for it, they did mine for free in about three hours.
