Checks and balances with gas stations?

Guys, do oil companies check up on their franchised stations to make sure they're offering the type and quality of gas you're paying for?

Reason i asked, there's a particular Chevron station close to where i live that really has me doubting. Every time i get Premium from that station, the car runs very sluggish. And on my old vehicle it pinged as well... things got so bad i eventually developed a sensor problem that was diagnosed by the local dealership tech's as caused by extended use of regular gas... which it was never fed.

I avoid that station now, obviously.

I do believe gasoline is a government regulated commodity. any discrepancy or fraudulent activity relating to how it is sold or advertised would be a federal offense... big fines and/or shut down of that location.

That's good to know. Thanks to both of you. Would this fall under the Federal Trade Commission?

If you know you're having problems with that station then why continue to go there?
