Well... I'm going through the same problem, and it's pissing me off cause I can't get the thing off. But i've bought two tools here is one of them http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Matco...motiveQ5fTools
And it doesn't work because the thing that pushes the spring loads are too fat and won't go far enough to push the spring in all the way. Those are plastic, and I also went with the metal one. Those were just as bad, however it gave me some leverage to force the tool in further. However, just not far enough. You might have better luck than me, but I'm going to nissan and asking to buy the tool. I've heard it's $14.

That's very likely that it could be due to my inability to work the tool. I hope that's the case because I'm going to have another go at it this weekend. Do you happen to know the size of the you were using? was it's 3/4" and 1/2". Sorry for sort of thread jacking you op
