So it's snowing and I was dicking around in a parking lot with my g35 coupe. As I was leaving I whipped it around the turn to the exit but I wasn't going particularly fast and I bumped into the curb. Now the vdc is off and the ride home was difficult as the car was sliding a bit and it felt like the alignment is off a bit because I have to turn the wheel to the left to go straight although sometimes the wheel is straight when I'm going straight. Also when it's parked and the the steering wheel is straight and the wheels are straight too. So, does that just mean that driving on slick roads with the vdc off is making it feel like the alignment is off or do I have to take it to a shop?

When did your G35 become a toy? Being a squirrel in the parking lot consider yourself lucky all you did was mess up the VDC, although you may have bent an axle/rim or wasted your differential....time will tell. Once they get it on an alignment rack they'll be able to see some of the damage you did.

The suspension is very fragile when it takes a hit laterally, it's designed to take the abuse from normal wheel motion, not from the side. You most likely cracked the suspension arms. I did something similar years ago; I hit a slick spot which I didn't see at night and sideswiped a curb. I did $5k of suspension damage, cracking all the aluminum bits on one side, which pushed the axle, and broke the suspension bits on the other side. Get the car checked out, and have them pay special attention to whether the aluminum components are cracked. Consider your car unsafe to drive until you get this done.

 

how fast would you say you were going, I was going 10 maybe 15 tops and just to gauge things, what kind of physical damage did you have to the exterior

 

I was going 25 tops, and I had no damage to the exterior, the full damage was limited to the suspension and I curbed my rear wheel.

 

This sounds like an insurance claim. Roads were slick and you hit a curb. If you find a lot of damage, call the insurance. If it's under your deductible, or real close, hopefully you won't do it again. How did it turn out?

To answer your questions, I asked what may be wrong with my G simply because i wanted to know before I took it to be looked at. It turned out to only be a control arm. As far as my other cars "that aren't toys," I don't have pictures of both cars on my computer, just the cayman, as they're kept at different houses in different states. I'm sure that showing just one picture won't convince anyone that I'm not lying, which doesn't concern me so I'll just leave it at that.

 

AbsoRAZ, was it the fact that you blew the control arm and screwed up the alignment that turned the vdc off? I had to take my lower left control arm off to replace the inner bearing and of course when I put it back on, the alignment is HORRENDOUS, and the vdc off and slip lights stay on.

 

You should really pm the guy rather than bump a thread that's >2 years old. I doubt he would still be following this thread...
