Couple quick questions about shifting, (easy stuff)

Hey guys,

I find myself generally shifting at around 3,000 RPM's. sometimes up to 4-5 if I'm going onto an on-ramp or on a backroad. Love it. Had a couple of questions though.

I always depress the clutch all the way to the floor for every shift. I feel like I shouldn't need to do this, is that correct? Maybe only for going into first or reverse? I just don't want to grind anything.

When do you usually shift to second when driving in traffic or around turns?

I also have an issue making smooth takeoffs and from 1st to 2nd sometimes. Do you usually rev to a certain RPM while letting off, or do you start to let off, and gradually give gas until XX amount of RPM's? Is there any videos out there of a G35 driver that you find is driving and shifting really well? I'd really like to see a good example of a driver shifting very well.

I'm not focused on speed right now, I'm focused on smooth shifts.

Thanks for any input you guys could give!!!

Read through this thread for good tips on smooth driving. Get an RJM Clutch bracket along with fresh Motul/StopTech fluid for the clutch/brake system

My 2 cents.. do all the throttle body air idle and ecm resets.. my car had a high engagement, lurching on launch, a high engagement, (high enough I thought I needed a new clutch) sloppy sloppy engagement points any gear, jerking. Basically everything you've described. Did the resets.. everything is incredibly smooth. Low engagement, smooth takeoffs. No more jerking in between shifts. Might be something to try.
I love the way it drives now. Huge difference. It amazes me how electronics have taken over cars basic functions now days.. lol

our cars have a crappy clutch engagement point. It's very high. Do this mod and your lurching issues will be solved.

My clutch engages low and smooth now. I don't think it could get much lower. Was garbage before. So my thought is maybe that's a bandaid fix.
Before, when my clutch wasn't working correctly... I would engage higher, not fully depressing the pedal to simulate what that fix is doing and the clutch worked better. Was smoother, still too much slip but much better engagement where I was about to do that mod. I very glad I didn't.
Anyways just something I'd check before adding a quarter to the switch.
