Low idle/relearn after battery disconnect?
Low idle/relearn after battery disconnect?
I've had my battery negative disconnected and reconnected within the course of a couple days while installing and troubleshooting my new headunit. As a result, my ECU was reset and my car had trouble re-learning it's idle, so I was stalling on warm-startups. I took it to my mechanic to get the idle manually reset/relearned, while also getting my throttle body cleaned (it was completely black when he looked at it) and now the stalling is gone and the idle is getting better.
But the problem is, I'm still not done with my headunit install and I'm afraid that after leaving the battery negative unplugged again, that my low idle/stalling will return. My mechanic said that there's a good chance that I will encounter the low idling/stall problem again if I disconnect my battery(reset ECU).
Am I unlikely to short-out/fry anything if I continue to work on my headunit with the battery still connected? The only things I need to do is reconnect the factory Navi system, ground a wire that I forgot to ground, and connect the Axxess ASWC interface to keep my steering wheel controls with the new headunit. I'd hate to either go back to my mechanic and pay to get the idle reprogrammed to get rid of it right away or wait weeks for my car to re-learn the idle on its own... provided it happens again.

Disconnect the battery if you have to splice any wires. If you're just unplugging harness connectors, you'll probably be just fine.
If you have a bluetooth OBDII dongle, you can use the Nissan DataScan II app to do the idle relearn. Push a button on your phone, no fancy pedal dance needed. But the pedal dance works also, and is free.

why not jus disconnect the batt when u do the install instead of all night/day jus waiting. ive had mine unplugged for couple hours and my car was fine.
