LS1 auto swap, transmission speed sensor
LS1 auto swap, transmission speed sensor
Thanks in advance for your help.
I’m doing an LS-4L60e swap in my 2006 G35 auto coupe. The LS engine is pre-CANBUS, but I have ordered an adapter so most of the gauges will work out well. One area that I am confused about is the various G35 speed sensors and how the absence of the original G35 auto transmission’s speed sensor affects things.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the actual speedometer uses the wheel sensors, so the speedo should work if I’m not touching that. I know the original TCM received the transmission speed signal that would be gone (it may use the wheel sensors as a backup), but do I need to account for the G35 transmission speed sensor output being lost? Will I get warning lights on the dash, which is really what I’m trying to avoid for a clean install? Is there a way to spoof this signal using the LS speedometer output and a Dakota Digital box if I need it? I know there are custom harnesses out there that use this box and that LS signal for “something” in the G35, but I am unsure what that signal is being used for. It’s possible that is only for Nav or something.
I understand there are specific G35 transmission functions that the TCM controls using the G35 transmission speed sensor, and that those are gone when I swap to the 4L60e. That’s expected. I just want the gauge display to look clean, and to not lose functionality of something else critical that needed that transmission signal.
Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks.

Transmission input/output speed sensor has nothing that do with the speedometer.
That's for the TCM to control shifting, nothing more.
Speedometer is from the rear wheel speed sensors on the differential, they connect to the ABS/VDC controller which turns the signal into CANBUS to the instrument cluster.
I'm also not aware of any "clean no dash lights" LS swap but it's been a while since I've seen one and maybe stuff is better configured now.

Thank you Sir. That’s kinda the role I thought the trans sensor had (TCM only). I am curious if you or anyone else knows if that specific sensor’s absence results in additional dash lights. I’m expecting others that I’ll work around.
