Wailea Grand
Wailea Grand
Hey all,
I'll be honey mooning in Maui around the end of May.
Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions on what are some of the fun activities in that part of town. I'm really fascinated with dolphins, are there any places where I can snorkel or swim with them without getting eaten by a shark?
We're renting a jeep, so where could be drive around?
I also want to say that I'm 420 friendly and wondering how I can truly enjoy my vacation. I don't know how taboo it is in this part of the country so if I offended anyone with asking, I apologize in advance.
Thanks,
D

Fancy meeting you here Dizz.
1. Haleakala for the sunrise. It's cold......brrrrr, so take blankets, jackets, long pants. I'd advise against the bike ride. Too long and when I was working on Maui I remember that 1 or 2 guys got wacked by tourists taking in the sights rather than watching where they are driving.
2. Driving around the island (Hana) might be worth your while, but keep in mind it's most of the day and slow and winding.
3. It's whale watching time of year. They run cruises out of Maalaea Harbor.
4. Avoid Olowalu. 2nd warning so if you get chomped after going there it's your fault.
5. Snorkeling off of Molokini is recommended and there are usually tours run out of the Kihei area. Call Maui Dive Shop (in Kihei) for more info at PH# (808) 879-3388.
6. As much time as I had spent working on Maui I never really heard about any dolphin encounter type deal. I'd talk to Maui Dive about that, they might be able to help you out.
7. There's a little track out on Maui in the cane fields. They usually run carts at least once a month. Might want to check them out. Sorry, no phone number.
8. You might want to hop a ferry in Lahaina and do a 1 day trip to Lanai.
9. Korean bars on Lower Main.....whoops, maybe not.
-----EDIT-----
To answer your Q from another thread. I worked on Maui from 2001 to early 2004......back on Oahu now. So long as you stay with a tour, don't have to worry about the guys in the gray suits.

You could dive in just about anywhere where there's calm waters. sharks are unpredicatable but i wouldnt worry about the reef sharks and hammerhead sharks if you encounter them. let them come to you, done go to them. after my encounters with sharks in bodyboarding, paddling and spearing, that's what i learned. i've never seen a great white or a tiger. dont go in murky waters, sharks love that stuff.
One place you have to go to is the Haleakala Crater early in the morning to view the sun rise. it's the most epic scenery!
Anyways...take a look at http://www.visitmaui.com/ for some ideas.
I used to go to maui to race motox. since I stopped, I havent seen Maui in like, 8 years.

Can I suggest a drive to Hana. Its a 50 mile drive there with lots of winding roads. Beautiful scenic drive. Also, catch the early sunrise on Haleakala. If youre 420 friendly, try riding a bike down Haleakala after youre all blazed.

What up Gz!
ok...
responding in numerical order.
1. Haleakala? Is that in Maui?
2. Driving around Hana? Is that in Maui?
I know the motto out there is "the slower the better", so I don't mind just chillin' in the jeep all day taking in the scenery.3. Don't really care for whales, I'm all about the dolphins.
4. Olowalu, is that in Maui? I will tattoo that on my hand to stay away from there.
5. Thanks for the number
6. Thanks
7. What's there to do in Laihaina?
8. I don't drink.
Hawaii
Went to Maui last August. Some things to do:
Helicopter tour of the island. Expensive, but worth it. See waterfalls that you can't see any other way.
Snorkeling. Went snorkeling in front of the Sheraton (opposite side of the island from you) and had a giant sea turtle swim about 4 feet from me. Would have loved to do Molakini dive, but just didn't have the time.
Road to Hana. Good, but it takes a full day.
The Crater. Wish I would have done the sunrise crater trip, but really enjoyed just going up to it.
Mama's Fishhouse. Really good seafood, and great views.
If you golf, they have world class clubs.

There is a lot to do in Lahaina. Lots of shops and restaurants. You might want to try deep sea fishing. Also, Im not sure where, but there is a charter that takes you out to a secluded island or rather extinct sea mount where you can snorkel. I think its called something like Molokini snorkeling adventures.
Haleakala is on Maui, cant miss it. Its the biggest mountain on that island. They have helicopter tours that fly to the summit. Make sure, if you do decide to do that copter tour that its a clear day.
Hana is on the Northeast side of Haleakala. There is only one road that leads to Hana.
Also, if you have the time and money, maybe take a island hop to one of the neighbor islands. Pacific Wings offers great deals on their new Cessna caravans. Single engine plane designed for up to 6-8 passengers. Thats the best way to see all the islands from a panoramic view.

2. Yes it is per Black350GT and Huntsville.
3. Maui has whales in the water and on the beaches this time of year. Be careful of spandex......
4. Yes, it's south of Lahaina. You'll see surfers and others, don't go out where you are alone, stay with the people.
5. No prob.
6. You are welcome.
7. Come on......what Korean doesn't drink?
Have fun.....you wise @$$.
Gz and the rest of the 808 state, thanks for your suggestions. I'm printing out this thread and definitely taking it along with me.
If any of you guys are in that area, please drop by or something. Have a drink or party at the lounge or something.

hah, why dont you make last minute plans and shoot on over to Oahu. Lots of stuff to do! Hook up with XLR8N or whomever and we can comglomerate. If you were here on the weekend of May 14, I couldve got you in the guest list to come out to our Drift Session Event. If you into cars going sideways...it's the SH*T! And for swimming with dolphines, I believe the Kahala Mandarin on the Kahala Shoreline offers that recreation. It's a really nice resort, pretty expensive place. Probably comparable to the Grand Wailea. And Reef diving? We have a bunch of places, the most popular tourist attraction is at Hanauma Bay. Hopefully our swells keep up, and you can gallore at 10' swells with 15'-20' faces, just as they tip over. Waimea got some of the nastiest shorebreaks...it's where boys are made into men if they survive them. We got clubs, Internatioal Market Place, the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, Oulets Gallore, and our version of the Great Mall of America, Ala Moana
. There's also a get together I tell all my friends from the mainland to attend to is the Glenn Grant Ghost Tours. It's spooky fun! compiled with some of Hawaii's Culture and History. it's more educational, IMO. Oh well, just in case you want to change your mind.
Maui is a great place to honeymoon at if you like peace and quiet, more so at Lani at either Manele Bay or the Koele Lodge. Overpriced but it's a great place to just sulk in the cool quiet breeze. But the lack of noise might overwhelm you once you get back home, and you'll notice how noisy everything is. So if you like activities and noise, Oahu is the place. But if you want activities and less noise...I'd nominate, Maui and Kona-Big Island. But if you want nothing to do, Lanai
