Being down graded

My gas is going to be dropped down to 89 octane. What can I do to get it up to 91 octane or is it just a waste of time?

Yea, I thought of that but in the manual states not to use any. Also what I have heard and read most boosters only give you less than 1 percent boost if any..

Do the math and add a percentage high octane/unleaded race fuel??? Well, seeing that all your 89 octane is FREE, you still come out ahead of us. Damn, maybe i should join.

Best bet is going with high octane (I think someone here had mentioned a 76 downtown that has 100 octane) and blending the gas.

You could do toluene, but it might get a bit messy having to do running calcs on what it's boosting your octane too (plus trouble with picking up a drum(s) of the stuff).

I could have been given wrong information but what I was told is that the different grades don't mix but separate. Don't ask me how but what do I know, thats why I'm asking.
I don't think I will have any problems. I hope....

wow... that sucks huh... I thought our motor only takes high octane...

... but if you start trying to do any kine with the gas mixtures... that's coming out of your own pocket now right...

Yea, thats why I wanted to see if There might be any long term problems with the lower octane. On the bright spot all the extra money I put in is a tax write off.

you can go to sherwin williams and pick up a 5gal drum of xylene ($35), mix in 5oz of marvel mystery oil and pour in about 2gal in with your 89. typically, for a 16 gal tank, 5gal of xylene mixed with 92 (11) would just shy of 100 octane rating. typically, we run 3:1 in our buicks with 92 octane,to get a whopping 8pts. those octane boosters raise the octane raiting a few points, but nothing really drastic and of any importance to them.

you can check out gnttype.org for more info.

I retail a product called bitron. not too much interest though, no matter how i show it works. people just stand skeptical, totally oblivious of waht it's all about, and how it works. but the people who've used it, now swear by it and are slightly moved by the price increases.

Man, when I read the article in the paper about HPD being downgraded in gas, the first thing I tought of was G35Five_O lol...

Is the change permanent or is it a short term solution.

Also dosent the Sedan have the ability to use non premium gas? I think in 05 it changed to Sedan's requiring premium also. I could be wrong tho..

I would think that our cars should be OK with lower octane in the short term. The thing that worries me about Mike's car is he's going to need to load his engine sooner or later.

I think that what would pop up is some knocking/pinging under heavy loads (at which point the ECU should pull some timing).

Xylene, yup agree with 636 on this too, it's the other stuff besides toluene that would work to increase the octane rating. I'm not sure, but when you get into the quantities that these guys need it might qualify for commercial use as opposed to residential usage, then you open yourself up to some environmental concerns, most notably disposal & storage of chemicals that would classify as industrial usage. Once you get into industrial usage the regs get much tougher.

Although more expensive, mixing gas would seem to be the easier option, especially if you can write it off.
