Passenger side screaching noise?
Passenger side screaching noise?
Hey, guys. Anyone else experiencing an intermittent screaching/rattling noise on the passenger side ("take my wife, please!") when coasting? [03 6MT] Sometimes excruciatingly loud, other times so soft that I can only hear it when I'm driving next to something that sound will reflect off of (e.g., lane divider on highway). Sound varies from a metallic screech/squeal to a metallic rattling (as though I'm dragging an empty dog collar...i.e., National Lampoon's "Vacation"). I mentioned it to the dealer when I had my last service but they were unable to hear/diagnose the problem. Some of the other G35 boards make reference to what sounds like the same problem, but no definitive answer. Kinda embarassing. Jason T. suggested it might be the brakes, but they checked out fine and the problem disappears on both accellerating and decellerating. Funnily, I was parked in the "good" parking spaces next to an 04 CPE at Hi Kai Shopping Center and we ended up at our cars at the same time. After chatting for a bit, he mentioned he was having the exact same problem; I/H couldn't diagnose it either. He suggested that the problem seems to go away temporarily when he cleans his brakes, which is something I've sort of noticed also (occurs less frequently when clean, but not totally gone), and which is mentioned on the other G35 boards as well. Admittedly, mine ain't the cleanest G out there (I'm actually looking for more Zymol, if anyone knows where to buy it; Costco hasn't had it for a while), but unless the G finally proves the old adage, "my car drives better when it's clean", I'd sure like to find a fix. Thanks, all.
If its the same screeching sound i had in my car, its the brakes... the dust just accumulates there and then it only makes noise... it goes away when i ligthly press on the brakes but a few secs later it comes back...
nothing wrong with the brakes, its just the dust, usually after i wash the car it goes away for a while and then it comes back... until i wash the car again...

If it's from the front, it's just the pad resting on the rotor. you cant do anything to alleviate the problem other than to lube up the rods that hold the pads. IoH also has some kind of Shim Kit for Brembo brakes, so you might want to inquire.
