flickers..

hey guys..

unfortunately, i'm having some problems with my HIDs. one of my headlights works fine, but the other flickers 3 times at start up and that it.. the lamps don't turn on.. have any of you had this problem, if so, what do you think it could be?
i don't think it's the bulb or the fuse.. it's either the ballast, bulb, or connection, but if it were the connection, why would the bulb even flicker at all?

any help would be great!

Re: flickers..

Whatever it is, take it to the dealer and have them fix it. That's what the warranty is for, after all.

Re: flickers..

Sounds like the ballast, try checking the ground and power hook ups.

Re: flickers..

in the back of the light housing behind the low and high beam bulb compartments, there's a cap that you twist to take off.. the original wiring harness is already passed thru that cap. that hole is about a 1/4 inch in diameter.

depending on what kit you get, you'll have to pass the bulb's connectors thru that cap and modify the cap by drilling a larger hole that allows the connectors to pass thru... then you'll needs a grommet to keep things secure. the bulbs i got already had a grommet, but the area around the grommet was secured a little more with electrical tape. you can probably use some sort of epoxy to make sure the seal is a lot tighter, but i don't think much water gets into that area...

except for that modification, the rest was easy... you'll have to get creative about where to mount the ballasts and ignitor. my ballast was mounted on the inside portion of the support bar with double sided tape, wrapped around with electrical tape, and then triple secured with zip ties around the entire bar and ballast. you can drill holes and attach using snap screws or zip ties, but i didn't want holes drilled into any of the body of the car.

the ignitor was small and light enough to zip tie to the rest of the wires.. be sure that the connectors are secure before closing everything up. definitely test the bulbs before doing any modifications, mounting, ziptying, rebolting, etc. if they're messed up, you'll know when you first try them.. assuming you don't do something like drop the headlight or immerse it in water right before reinstalling.

anyway, let me know if you have any questions/problems.

I have pics of the HID's in my rides section. pics of the installation were limited. I didn't do a very good job of recording the whole process via photographs.. the pics would be hard to follow anyway and would depend on the kit...

Re: flickers..

the osrams do have a blue coating.. i rarely use fogs so dunno why i even got them..

i got the 9000K H1 kit from proxenon.. similar to the g-garage (mcculloch) kit... i don't really believe the 9000K marking.. i just think the color temp label is subjective and dependent on the place u buy them from... this is probably the same as the 7000K g-garage kit.. check out mccullochhid.com

Re: flickers..

Hi:

I think I will order my hid kit in few days, I will like to know if you drilled and additional hole to the dust cap or pull out the original wiring from the cap and drill a large hole in the center of the cap? also where exactly you mount your ballast (if you got pics better) what I understud is that you mounted them in the bumper support bar I'm correct?

I will appreciate your help
