Gauge Cluster - Lighting

Do you know if you can change the lighting for the gauge cluster? If so, who are the manufacturers?

That would look really cool.. Would the gague cluster include the area where the AC is and stuff?

That would be great if we could change all of the interior lighting in the center., Primarily, I was looking to see if we could change the backlighting for the speedo, rpm gas, and oil gauge. oh yeah and the clock to.

Don't think you can change the colour. The bulbs are just regular instrument bulbs, meaning they are not in colour. The cluster is made with the amber/orange colouring. There are about 10-15 of those bulbs. But if you find out differently, let us know.

Re: Gauge Cluster - Lighting

Well i think it can be done. They are just bulbs or leds which should be able to be replaced rather easily, thats if we can locate all of them. What color would you guys use? I think i would go white light, per suggestiong by my gf. Also white would go with the flow if i get the custum clear corners.

but then the LCD letters would remain orange while the gauge and the button lights are white..... wouldn't that be weird?

I competly forgot about the lcd on the headunit and control thingy(compus temp). Now how we would replace that I haven't a clue. I guess thats when it becomes a real custom job. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Gauge Cluster - Lighting

I was thinking of going with the neon looking blues for the gauges and leaving the actual numbers and needles with the orange and red lighting.

Come to think of it that might look too busy/clumsy.

Re: Gauge Cluster - Lighting

the only problem with using white as a gague color is that it would hurt your night vsion every time you look at it. That's why most makers use lights in the lower end of the spectrum (like blues, reds, etc). I had a loaner I35 and it's cluster was blue (kinda cool). I actually find the yellow a little annoying...

Re: Gauge Cluster - Lighting

For some reason Audi's red and BMW's orange just seem more up-market than the one in the G... even the one in VW (gasp) seems more appropriate in a luxury car...anybody know how those three gauges work???.....
I wish they equipped the G with electro-luminicent gauges like all other Infinitis... I mean, there's only so much you can achieve with the basic light-bulbs-behind-cut-outs concept like in the G... <sigh>... maybe aftermarket...

Re: Gauge Cluster - Lighting

Very intresting, I hadnt noticed the color scheme from the lower end of the spectrum. I had a loaner i35 too and those blue led's were nice, very similar to the VW's Jetta.

Re: Gauge Cluster - Lighting

The G's lighting is almost the identical colour of the odo, trip, temp and clock in the Porsches. I noticed that in the Porsche, the numbers are lit on a black background and washout easily in direct sunlight. The G, with the black on bright don't wash out as easily- something to think about.
I think that there's just too much of the same colour throughout the dash in the G which makes it better colour coordinated but not as visually interesting.

Re: Gauge Cluster - Lighting

I think the biggest problem with the gauge is its lack of depth.... that's the best I can describe it.... BMW gauges just seems to be of higher quality.... oh well... maybe they'll come out with a U.S. version of the NISMO gauge.....
