Crawford Install

I followed Zimbo's instructions (in FAQ/DIY forum) --even tho they are for Sedan, they were fine for my Coupe too. Thanks again Zimbo, they were a lot more explicit that Crawford's.
Fairly straightforward job, -- took off the old plenum, even didn't drop anything. (I hate when that happens). Had to take a break, my back was hurting and I misplaced my glasses. So the throttle body is all that has to go back on.
Then I can get to refitting the engine cover and making the ABS sleeve for the oil filler cap. The cover may need some trim but not major work.
Won't see how it runs till tomorrow since Isabel is still messing things up here in southern Ontario.
Here's some pics of what went down including a b4 and after, a side by side, pics of the lower half of the plenum and the air inlets LS & RS.(I hadn't seen that angle b4).
I'll post with final impressions after final fitment and test run.

Pic 3-- This one shows the differences between the two pieces- very similar but with a few ridges on the stock unit.

Re: Crawford Install

Final pics of install: showing the cover installed too. It has about a half inch bend in it now which isn't too noticable, the front studs that the acorn nuts bolt onto had to be extended but it worked. Not sure about clearances yet, except the hood closes ok.
Pic one is a sideshot showing the bend.:

Re: Crawford Install

and pic 2 is straight on:

One additional pic showing the minor rubbing of the engine cover on the hood pad. It rubbed there because the cover kinked when reinstalled. The rubbing occurred near the letter 'P' in Midship. There was also minor rubbing on the other side near the letter 'M'.

Re: Crawford Install

Rumble, Yuichi has these at StrictlyZ for $500 USD plus $200 for the core if you keep (I did). He includes all the gaskets and hardware you need for the job.
Shipping, Brokerage, and Taxes was $85 CAD.
I'll let you know how it works tomorrow.

Re: Crawford Install

Hi bros (gtorres44 & BobbyD), It took longer than expected, my back is acting up somewhat. Total time was about 2 hrs. It also included taking off the Throttle body again to replace the 2 factory hose clamps with proper screw type. Had a minor coolant leak at one of the 1/2" hose connections on the Plenum next to the Throttle body mounting. That little job cost me about 15 minutes. I've attached a pic of the clamps in question. The good screw type are the ones to use.
One other thing I noticed was that the replacement plenum wasn't flat- which we knew about. Only trouble is when it comes to torquing down the plenum to spec (only about 10 ft lbs) it didn't seal properly and I had to torque to about 25 ft lbs. Also the 3 long bolts that run accross the middle of the plenum were hard to line up with the holes in the lower half. Had to fiddle with that some.

Couldn't do an all out butt dyno test today due to clearance issues under the hood, but I'll post with them soon.

Re: Crawford Install

Weslutes, Hey bro. The install went well and looks sanitary. I'd like to get the engine cover back on sometime. It'll mean fitting longer studs for the 2 acorn nuts at the front of the Plenum. Otherwise you have to kink the cover to make it fit.
The sivler wrap around the Z-tube is only insulation to keep the heat off the intake air for better response. It looks like Sh*t but is supposed to help power. It's only there untill I get an intake (I'm waiting for the K&N that's taking forever).
Late dude.
