Re: 350z intake tube question
Dude......you're going to **** everyone off. I agree that searching for previous posts on a topic should be done and that sometimes it is very difficult to find what you're looking for even if it was discussed before, BUT the Z tube is all over this forum. I think it's the most mentioned item here. I don't have the tube, but everyone says it sounds better.

Now I am really pissed off...j/k. The 350z tube gives it a nice tone (humm)...but the 350Z with the stillen HI-flow sounds sweeet!!! Although $260 is a bit pricey for the stillen, I am sure most would agree that it is well worth it. The tube alone doesn't really give you much power...maybe 2 to 3, but once you add the stillen you will feel it. Search around and you will find any info you are looking for. later.

Thangbu, I've got the Z-tube and it does 2 things that I've noticed: It deepens the exhaust note a little (along with a snarl at WOT), and you can hear more resonance at the inlet itself.
It's supposed to bump h/p by a few also but that's hard to confirm.

Re: 350z intake tube question
I totally agree with Gsedanman and cato comments.
If you're looking for the physical differences, I've noted the following;
G35 Air Duct -
1 - Includes the well documented resonators.
2 - Uses a rubber flex coupling at the MAF sensor and an angled rubber connector at the throttle body.
3 - Incorporates a compound bend "S -Curve" into the base tube's design.
4 - Has a 3.220" OD (outside diameter) after the flex coupling and a 3.135" OD ahead of the angled connector to the throttle body.
350Z Air Duct -
1 - No resonators.
2 - Uses a rubber flex coupling at the MAF sensor. Is directly connected to the throttle body.
3 - Incorporates a straight run into the tube's design.
4 - Has a 3.250" OD (outside diameter) after the flex coupling and ahead of the throttle body connection.
Edit: It's my opinion that the physical design of the 350Z Air Duct allows for an increased volume of laminar air flow under the same differential pressure conditions. Therefore, engine power is increased to some degree. How much? I don't have a clue.

Re: 350z intake tube question
It was my understanding that the 7 horse power difference between the Z and the G35 was because of that intake. Once you put on the Z intake tube, that horse power difference should go away. The G35 intake was far more restrictive with all its resonance chambers.

Re: 350z intake tube question
It is more than just sound. The power is up as well, not a lot, but it's definitely worth the change. The Gs have a resonator chamber and it also draws hot air up from the exhaust manifold. IMO, the Z's intake system is just about perfect. Our Gs don't draw air from the same low pressure spot as the Z, we draw from just above that area. Making this change amost brings it up to the Zs level. I have mine teamed up with a K&N air filter and a Crawford plenum.

Re: 350z intake tube question
I think one sort of negative thing about the Injen is the install versus the Z Tube/Stillen setup. The latter from my understanding is very simple where as the Injen is a bit time consuming especially if you go the way of taking the front bumper off.

Re: 350z intake tube question
I've never done it before but from what I understand, the difficulty is that you have to either take the front bumper off the car or try to go up through the driver side wheel well. I'm betting it's more time consuming than difficult though. Keep in mind this is for the Injen intake, not the Stillen. The Stillen is said to be very simple even for those that are not mechanically inclined because it essentially just replaces the stock filter box rather than placing the filter towards the bottom of the car like the Injen.
As for which is better I don't know...seems like so many conflicting reports. Only thing I care about is which adds more power but even those reports seem conflicting. I do wonder about the Stillen setup though because it doesn't seem that much different than the stock setup.
