Doing this tomorrow
Glad it's helping you guys.
It's one of the few cheap things you can do that makes a real difference. |
ok i went out and got that CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner and im cleaning mine right now... Autozone is full of idiots!!! i asked for the MAF cleaner and he tried to give me carb and choke cleaner?!?!?!!?:7: wtf! so i told him it would fck up my sensor and he looked puzzled so i drove down to Pep Boys and found it right away... Autozone Blows!!
im going to try it i hope i dont screw up lol
it was actually really easy... kinda hard to screw anything up. i just hope it helps my gas mileage out
89000mi and mine actually looked relatively clean...cleaned it with an alcohol prep pad, we'll see. Been using a K&N for about 40,000mi. was a BIOTCH to remove, surprisingly had the weird star-shaped screwdriver that fit, but had to unscrew many things because the angle was so awkward.

You must really be searching to find this thread. Good job!! Good info for a lot of us noobs on the MAF!!

I know this is an old thread, but i searched and this came up. It has given me a great amount of information. Thanks for that DIY writeup JB. One question, I know you have to relearn the throttle body sensors after cleaning. Do you have to relearn anything after cleaning the MAF or does the MAF sensor readjust itself (example: fuel mixture)?

im thinking bout doing this and i was wondering do you spray the opening in the 1st pic or do you just spray the MAF sensor???

ohhh k thanks OCG
Ya thanks OCG, i just did the MAF clean and while at it, i took apart the whole intake system and cleaned everything (except for the MAF housing tube). I also threw in a K&N High Flow. Prior to the cleaning, the car was idling at 1.15k RPMs and after the clean the car was down to 850 RPMs at idle. I haven't taken the car out for much of a drive, but once i do i will report back to you guys. Next project is the throttle body cleaning.
