Anyone Clean their MAF (mass air flow sensor)

Looking to clean my MAF, CRC makes a product for this now

http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/co...x?PN=05110&S=Y

Anyone done this yet? Is it easy to get to the MAF sensor? Any special reset procedure afterwards?

I use a similar product called "Electrical Contact Cleaner" and it works fine.

Word of caution tho: these sensors are very delicate and easily contaminated with dirt or grease, so be careful when handling, and completely air dry the unit when finished.

To access it, you only need to disconnect the electrical connection and then undo the 2 philips screws and slide the unit out.
Replacement can only go one way, but don't overtighten the screws. The housing is only plastic and will crack easily.

All that is is non-residual electrical contact cleaner with a MAF cleaner label. I don't know how much this will cost, but I'd just go to the nearest electronics store and pick up some regular non-residual contact cleaner. Then just let it air dry.

Hmmm . . . Interesting. According to the label instructions, you spray it liberally on, in and around the MAF sensor and allow to dry completely before re-installing. I'll have to try this soon. Let us know how it works for you.

Oh, yes . . . That is the MAF sensor.

Just blast it away. In that third picture, that little wire is what meters the incoming air. When dirt, grime, and oil (from say a k&n filter) gets on it, it affects the accuracy of the reading and thus could cause loss in hp or smoothness. So just blast it away clean, and let it dry. It's just alcohol so it'll evaporate pretty quickly. 5-10 minutes I guess?

Removeal of electrical connector

The electrical connector on my MAF resists removal. How is it removed? What is the technique to get it off those little locking tabs on the MAF?

Look at the connector carefully and you'll see a release on the side that needs to be pushed with a small blade screwdriver.

When I did mine, I concentrated on the exposed sensor (wire) for a couple seconds and then the inside of the housing for a short blast.
Air drying only takes a few seconds and you're good to go.
Don't forget the electrical connector when you're done.

Good grief . . . Now, I need to go out and find a Torx 20 security bit to remove the sensor unit fron the main housing assembly.
