Stillen air box problems

Hello:

I recently installed a Stillen High flow air box and grounding cables to my 2003 G35.

Now I’m doing lets say 80mph on 3rd gear and I choose to slow down by braking hard and bringing the car into neutral to come to a trafic light, the engine will shut down.

I can inmediately restart he engine with no further problems but this situation worries me.

What should I do?

If I recall, reset the ECU and drive it around for awhile avoiding the situations that would cause it to shut down and eventually the ECU will adapt to life with the new intake allowing it to function in all situation's. I mean, that's my read on the other times this has been discussed. If someone knows the answer better, I won't be crushed if I get corrected. But I'm pretty sure I've got it right.

Carlos,

Some Gs have had this problem with the stock intake systems in place.

I highly recommend you follow these three service procedures and then drive your car in a normal manner for a few days as Gsedan35 has recommended.

- Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning Procedure.

1. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.

- Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch is “ON”.
3. Turn ignition switch is “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

- Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)
It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.

1. Perform “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning”.
2. Perform “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”.
3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
4. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
5. Conform that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
6. Repeat the following (steps 7a, 7b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
7a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD)
7b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the Check Engine Light (CEL) stops blinking and turned ON.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the CEL is ON.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
11. Wait 20 seconds.
12. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure the idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.

Re: Stillen air box problems

Those guys are probably right on, but do check to make sure that your filter is not over oiled. Getting oil on your mass air flow sensor will cause the problem you are experiencing as well. I have had this happen to me when I put on a new K&N filter and also after reoiling it. It will probably "go away on its own" once the excess oil is blown out of the filter and off of your MAF sensor. The first time for me it lasted a week or so. The second time only a day because I realized at that point what was happening and removed the excess oil.
