TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!!!

I decided to take my car to the track today to get a base line on my G before we start adding the mods to it tomorrow. I'm putting in Stillen Cold Air and a Stillen Exaust. I'm waiting for Stillen to get off their asses and get the supercharger done, seeing that I'm getting the first production model. Here's my time tickets for today. I'm totally stock, and these are my 2 best times. I decided to leave it in auto rather than use the slap-stick, and I think I can get a few tenths by shifting it manually.

Has anyone else taken theirs to the track? How did you do?

I'm Car 651. Right lane on both runs. Car 628 was a BMW M Roadster and car 662 was a Nissan 300 Z twin Turbo. I actually dialed in at 14.65 and broke out with a 14.641 on my last run. I'll keep everyone posted as to what my ET will be with each individual mod that we add. First one to go on is the Cold Air Intake from Stillen. Here's the Time Slips!

HAPPY RACING AND DON'T STREET RACE! TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!!!!!

If you can't read the slips, here's the times. I lost on my faster run because I broke out.

DIAL 14.65 14.65
R/T .680 .746
60 2.233 2.234
330 6.216 6.235
1/8 9.479 9.508
MPH 75.18 75.97
1000 12.276 12.314
1/4 14.641 14.689

Re: TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!!!

KongzGx,

DIAL 14.65 14.65 - The driver tells the time keeper the time they are going to run the 1/4 in, the idea is to get as close to the time without going lower.
R/T .680 .746 - Reaction Time, is how soon you start moving once the green light goes on.
60 2.233 2.234 - 60 foot time. Time it takes to go 60 feet from staging.
330 6.216 6.235 - 330 foot time. Time it takes to go 330 feet.
1/8 9.479 9.508 - 1/8th mile time. Time it takes to go 1/8th mile.
MPH 75.18 75.97 - MPH @ 1/8th mile.
1000 12.276 12.314 - 1000' time.
1/4 14.641 14.689 - 1/4 mile time.
MPH 94.85 94.47 - MPH at end of 1/4 mile.

Hope this makes sense.

Merlin.

Re: TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!!!

thanx for the explanation.. now i understand..
except, why would the point of the "dial in" to get as close to the time as possible without going lower? why wouldn't u want to go lower than what you expect to get?

Nope. I left it just like I drove it off the showroom floor. I wanted a perfect representation of what the car will actually do on the street.

KongzGx,

This is what's called bracket racing. There were a few races going on yesterday. There was 15.00 and slower, which means that all the cars in that bracket run 15.00 sec or slower in their ET (elapsed time), then there was my bracket, or 14.99 and faster. All cars in my bracet run 14.99 or faster. There was also the "fast 8" which was the fastest 8 FWD cars there, and the Rearwheel/Allwheel drive Heads Up. That's self explanitory.

Now, in my bracket, 14.99 and faster, there's alot of cars that will do 13 second quarters. It's not fair to put a car that is only doing it in 14.65 against a car that can run it in 13.90. So I "dial in", which means that I'm going to run the quarter in 14.65 or slower and I get a head star on the guy that's running it in 13.90. If I go faster than 14.65, then I lose because I had an unfair head start. If the guy that runs it in 13.90 goes faster that 13.90, then he loses because he lied and didn't give me enough head start. If we both "break out", then whoever is closest to their dial in time wins. If neither one of us "breaks out", then whoever crosses the line first wins.

Does that explain it a little better?

If you have a track anywhere near where you are, I suggest that you go there one weekend. Drag racers are really good people and will explain almost anything to you. All you have to do is ask the question. It took me 30 minutes to explain to my girlfriend why I left the start before my competition. It took even longer to explain why I was pissed I didn't hit the brakes before crossing the line on my last run. (I was about 10 car lengths ahead of the guy).

I hope that helps!

Greg

I'm with that! You always hear about these cars that run these great times, but with all these hoops you have to jump thru at the track. If I talk smack I'll "try" to back it up at the traffic light. I mean I could back it up at the traffic light....NEVER STREET RACE.
