if removing the power duct has heat concerns for some of you, you can use a foam weather stripping tape and outline the edge of the opening so that it creates a seal against the hood. I had to double up some to get the desired height but it makes a very good seal as you can tell by the impressions on the foam.

i got mine today from www.ultimatez.com who are local to me.

the install was cake... mounting the cone to the intake tube and wat not
was a piece of cake, but getting those damn weather strips on the heat
shield is a pita. no wonder it's so damn cheap in price... most of
the labor to assemble the thing is done by the consumer. lol

will run it tomorrow morning for a test drive.

in all honestly, i don't foresee much performance benefits from these
filters, but im sure the sound will be nice and deep.

You need to do some search in this furum before pull out a stupid *** mod like this. The power duct & the seal contacting the hood are part of the factory
Ram air duct, not a greta one but it does collect fresh air at speed. Removing it without getting a larger surface filter would only reduce power & gain some ricer sound.

+1 on that weatherstrip..i found out that you just have to put it on the oem plastic air duct...then take it off and put it on the heat shield...by that time the moulding is softer...

not much to look at really, looks a little ghetto, but it only took a couple of minutes and a few cents to do. it seems to really seal off the opening well as you can see the impressions of where the hood is closing on the foam tape. The stock power duct also has a seal and this basically replicates that but enlarges the opening for fresh air to get in.

How does this sound? From my untrained eye it looks like the collection area under the power duct might work as a sound baffle.

I've felt no loss of HP with my set-up, temps are running a few degrees higher, but that is about it. Sound is not ricer at all (for those who say otherwise). If anything it makes the stock sedan exhaust sound more 350Z like.

there is basically no way that you would actually be able to feel a gain or loss of HP from your set-up

I have a z-tube and the sound was noticeably louder at the higher revs. After that I removed the power duct and the resonator under the stock air box and the sound got louder still, in comparison I would say the removal of the power duct and lower resonator made a bigger difference then the Z-tube. it's a nice growl above 3-4k. If you're really low on funds just do the mods to the stock air box it's free and makes a huge difference in the sound of the engine.
