sorry dont have pics at the moment maybe later ill get around to it. i have a carbon fiber z-tube. it took all but 5 maybe 10 minutes to swap out. if i remember correctly all it involves is loosening the collars on either side with a screw driver. the hardest part was pulling the damn thing out cause the stupid air muffler or what ever you wanna call it hits everything on the way out lol. but besides that you shouldnt have a problem. i could practically do it with my eyes closed. good luck and let us knows how it goes

PEtaG35 I see you asked the same question in a couple different sections of the forum . I answered with pics and install instructions in this thread where you asked the identical question:Here is your answers:https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-forced-induction/130373-z-tube-pics-install.html

this is a newbie question.... but i've been on this forum a lot, for several months now (and have asked this before, but nobody answered)

but anyway, is the point of the Z-tube to simply decrease some resistance of the air intake?

also, is it named so because it's a factory part from the 350Z?

Yes it is a Z tube because it comes from the 350Z, the g's tube has baffling characteristics reducing noise. the z tube gives a better sound and more direct airflow compared to the stock tube.
