K&N drop-in or intake pipe?

Is there a difference in performance between the drop-in and the one with the aluminum intake pipe?

Nope. You buy them for the sound.

Did you notice a sound difference from just a z tube with the K&N. I've heard mixed reviews.

If there is no performance difference, then I'd rather go with the drop-in since its cheaper and still retains the stock look.

with a hard pipe you gain, what, 4 hp? If youre on a budget just get the drop in. If youre worried about getting her breathing then yeah do the pipe and exhaust too

Is a K&N drop-in really going to offer any significant horsepower gains vs the oem paper filter?

Reason I ask. . .

Generally I've seen that (in other cars) neither a drop-in filter nor a cold air intake is going to offer a whole lot of power, but it usually goes that if you're looking for performance to choose the full intake instead of just a drop-in filter.

When y'allsay there is no difference or no "appreciable" difference are you saying it's not worth the difference of 2hp with the drop in to 4hp with the actual intake? Or is it actually a 3.8 vs 4 horse gain? I'm just using these numbers for example.

I guess I'm making this more complicated than necessary, but if you're suggesting the K&N drop-in is a better deal since performance difference is nil or maybe half a horse then it would make sense to go for the drop-in. On the other hand if you're saying the performance difference is only a matter of two horsepower, with the K&N drop-in getting you a gain of two and the full intake getting you four, I'd say it's better to save the money and go with neither option if power is the idea.

Sounds like your now leaning towards oem paper replacement or the k&n drop in. I think i remember the k&n being 40-50 bucks. Better filter, last one you will have to buy and still performs better than paper. Not significant numbers to brag about though. Thats going to be my route when i need a new one.

Yeah, neither one makes much of a difference on the 3.5L. Think about the new 07 Sedan. It has dual intakes and only gains 3 hp (according to commercials), and that's at 60 mph. Intakes can provide decent gains on some cars, but not the G.

i didn't notice a big difference in sound with the drop in. the stillen made appreciable sound difference, but the cf z tube made the whole set-up howl at full throttle.

i don't know how much power difference this set up made, because i did much of it under break-in. but now i am at 4k on the odometer--if i have the trac. control off, the car will break the tires loose on a slow roll start around 4k rpm., spin all the way through second and chirp third.

Oh B.S.

K&N filter drop-in is for lazy folks that don't want to take the time to make
their cars better! Stillens CAI box is the best on the market and it includes
this monster K&N filter. True, intakes by themselves don't make a lot of H.P.
but when you add a spacer, Z-tube and an exhaust system you'll feel a
noticealbe diffrence.....this is all a learning process......take your seats! haha

no, its for smart people who dont want to spend $250+ for sound. an intake doesnt make your car "better"...

So why do you recommend the stillen intake over others?
