Test pipes turning stuff brown??

Anyone with test pipes notice their exhuast tips becoming a nice smoked brown color along with anything around the rear end? After a good washing waxing, I noticed my white license plate even has that brown color to it. The lower valance also seems to have the brown hue, but not as bad as the license plate or especially the tips. Bad part is, I can't get the stuff off of either my tips or the license plate!

Advice?

I started using a dremel with a polishing tip on it to break the stuff off the tips. Seriously, am I the only one?

I figured that, but wanted to know why it never has been mentioned here. Thanks.

I would have thought committing a Federal Felony under the Clean Air ACT was enough to discourage tampering with emission systems..............not some discolorizations from releashed acids.
