From a roll, our cars would be neck and neck. I firmly believe your coupe would go 102mph if you replaced that POS CAI with the stock airbox. All that additonal intake piping length of the CAI is chocking the higher rpm performance of your VQ. I saw the exact thing with a CAI on my last VQ. My ETs were generally the same, but the CAI sucked a solid 2mph in the last 1/8 mile.
That is the most retarded thing i have ever heard in my life. You think that a stillen air box is going to help my trap speed...my trap speed is affected by my gearing not my CAI. Right when i go across the 1/4 mile mark i am at the very very end of 3rd gear and switch into 4th right as i go across the line...4th gear on the 5AT is so long (if you haven’t noticed) i can do right around 140 in 4th gear. Maybe if i have a reflash to redline my car at 7200 vs 6700 i will trap higher speeds, maybe if i have different gears in my car i will trap higher speeds, but by replacing my CAI with a **** box...no my trap speed is not going to improve. Go tell whoever told you that information and tell them they are retarded. and your ET is only .4 seconds off...thats nearly a half second haha good luck catching up .4 seconds without a couple grand in mods....and your sedan is lighter than the coupe to start with

As for this, like i said in the post that you took my quote from. We will see who is right and who is wrong when the dyno numbers come out. Unless you have replaced the 07 air boxes with CAI and
1. dynoed the car
2. took the car to the track to prove negative results.
Then you cannot tell me im wrong. We will see when a company comes out with a product.

Stillen airbox? Huh? You'll never read me saying something as rediculous as that. Shall I post the dyno of the Stillen CAI gaining zilch in power over the stock airbox?

FYI, I tap the 3rd gear rev limiter just before the finish line (I'm talking mere feet before the finish). Interestingly, that would mean both of our cars are obtaining the same MPH at the end of the run and are technically make similiar power numbers. One major difference is your coupe is pulling about a .1 second quicker 60 foot which is good for about .2 seconds in the 1/4 mile. You're car is getting chocked by that CAI. If you only understand flow dynamics and the design of the VQ35 intake manifold, you'd see why that CAI is killing your MPH. It's too bad you won't at least give the stock airbox a shot at the track to see. You're also one of the few on this site that seems to believe that intakes do anything for the 1st gen cars.

As for "whoever told me that information", you're talking to him I've tested every single type of intake known to man on my prior VQ. We're talking over 150 passes and over 10 dyno runs. I've tested the stock airbox, POP style, true CAI which tucks the filter into the fender (just like your CAI), and a hackerd verison of the stock airbox. Going by 1/4 mile passes and conversions to DA and considering 60', the hacked stock airbox made for the best ET and MPH. The G35 stock airbox to lightyears better than the stock airbox on the my old VQ30.

Its funny, what do you think i had before the injen CAI? Hopes and dreams? Obviously it was the stock box. Don’t forget that i have an AFC which when we have it tuned on a dyno will allow me to select a different fuel map...this way im taking full advantage of my CAI. As for me taping into 3rd gear its more than mere feet...its just the delay in shift, and the slow pull from about 3700RPM that are why my trap speed isnt that high...look at guys running FI with 400 HP their speeds are only about what 108 or so? Thats 7MPH faster and you think im going to pick up 1 second with a stillen air box.

CAI have the advantage over stock air boxes at higher speeds sense they have direct air being pushed into them...nothing in the way of the filter (at least mine is setup like that) as your car goes faster the air is being rammed into the filter rather than your engine having to suck for it. The stock air box is going to have to “work” harder for the air IMO.

The reason i have the CAI still is because its obviously more efficient for me and i see better gains with it...im not going to put any "mod" onto my car that is going to slow it down.... except for rims or brakes something of that nature.

And one more question if the CAI didn’t add any power at all then how come im running numbers way below what I could when I was stock? You think my exhaust is giving me that much more power?

IMO this is how i view this whole issue...

I DON'T THINK YOU'LL GET ANYMORE GAINS FROM AN AFTER MARKET CAI. I THINK THE ENGINEERS AT NISSAN TWEAKED THIS MOTOR OUT. IF YOU DO GET ANY GAINS FROM A RESPECTABLE AFTER MARKET SUPPLIER IT WILL BE MINIMAL I.E. 1-2 HP GAIN. BUT WHAT ARE YOU SACRIFICING IN ORDER TO GET THAT 1HP GAIN? MONEY OBVIOUSLY, LOUD SOUNDING MOTOR, AND PROBABLY DOWN THE ROAD SOME MAS PROBLEMS WHICH NISSAN IS KNOWN FOR...

BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY IF YOU ARE A TUNER AND LIKE TO TAKE YOUR CARS TO SHOWS AND LIFT THE HOOD UP, I GUESS IT MAKES SENSE NOT TO HAVE A STOCK INTAKE SET UP FOR SHOW PURPOSE ONLY. TO ME THATS WHAT IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO..WHEN YOUR SHOWING OFF YOUR MOTOR DO YOU WANT IT DRESSED UP OR STOCK LOOKING? I PERSONALLY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A NICE INTAKE SET UP, BUT I DONT WANT IT TO LOUD

I HOPE SOMEONE DYNOS BEFOR AND AFTER WHEN INSTALLING A CAI TO KNOW FOR SURE THE GAINS AND AT WHAT RPMS.

All these cars had significant NA mods like cams, intake spacers/manifolds, headers, etc.

Ahhh your at it again like usual.

That is why the Motordyne spacer for the REV up engine couldn't make the full power on a few cars tested with the stock intake including mine? The stock intake is good enough for a STOCK car, but one that has performance stuff on it, it just isn't enough.

DaveB is the notorious nay-sayer when it comes to mods for the G35. He will deny most of the mods that are for the G35/350z that they do not work without him actually testing them. If there was a dyno on any mod which there has been many that have proved gains then he will deny it and he will try to find one dyno that shows no gains like he threatend nismo with.

The guy is known for issues on maxima.org and my350z.com now. People hate him because of the way he trashes mods all the time.

The mods here known about his attitude, but just let him get away with it, so we lose valuable members on this site that have spent countless hours and money testing mods on the G35 and proved there were gains. They actually owned the mods unlike DaveB.

In another topic DaveB even said the 07 Exhaust is great and would not gain much 3-4 hp at the most from a Stillen Catback exhaust system. LOL! But he is going by what pictures he see's and considers that a fact with no testing.

I tried to help you out, but as usual everyone here thinks im wrong about any idea i ever have. Then when we can finally prove them wrong...they never answer or say its not true. My answer to your question is when someone actually does come out with dual CAI for the 07 sedan, if you put them on AND ALSO HAVE A TUNING PROGRAM ( ecu reflash, piggy back, fuel controler) you WILL see gains.

It has to do with your last sentence about dynos. He will deny the dynos and say they are wrong.

That's it Russ. You came in here and provoked DaveB. Not the other way around. DaveB was simply extending a discussion that was already taking place between NISMO G and a few others. Stop following him around and sniping at him. If you don't have something constructive to contribute, please refrain from contributing at all.

I completely agree, the catch is when someone has a first gen. G and has never looked at the intake set up of the second gen and then based their opinion on experience with the first gen and we get ourselves in a bit of a pickle.

Nismo G - have you noticed that while the second gen is heavier and is roughly one tenth slower to the quarter mile then your car? I think Nissan did their homework when it came to tuning this engine, the simply bolt ons will not yield any sort of large boosts in performance.

Sean, what DaveB meant when comparing your traps speeds is that from a roll, a run between your car and his would be very close. ET's are a measure of traction, not power. Traps are much more indicative of power.

I can run 5 straight runs with the same traps, but have ET's that extend over a range of half a second. The car made the same power for each run, but traction will differ.
