vortex generators

Has any one dynoed the Tornado / Spiralmax / or
theTurbonator so called super chargers ? don"t
laugh Stillen and JWT's Pop Charger uses the same
Burneulli's principal of flow (liquid or gas.) I bet he turned
over in his grave with that spelling. any takers?
happy holidays.

Re: vortex generators

Car and Driver dyno-tested the Tornado in a 540i. 0 hp gains and no recorded difference in fuel consumption.

Re: vortex generators

Bob,

I guess I'm a taker as I'm real confused by the title "Vortex Generators" as well as the content of your post.

Your statement " ... Stillen and JWT's Pop Charger uses the same Burneulli's principal of flow (liquid or gas.)" [as the Tornado, Spiralmax or Turbonator] "doesn't compute".

Since it's been many years since I spent anytime with Mr. Bernoulli and fluid flow theories, I refreshed my knowledge by visiting this website on fluid mechanics...
http://www.efunda.com/formulae/fluids/bernoulli.cfm

We both know Bernoulli covers a broad spectrum of fluid flow conditions. And while I'm not anxious to generate a detailed discussion on the mathematics and advanced principles of fluid flow, I would like clarification.

Aren't Tornado, Spiralmax, Turbonator and similar devices designed add turbulance to air flow? They're really not designed to be vortex generators... are they?

Don't velocity rings increase laminar air flow under 99% of real world conditions?

Do you remember the K&N "Filter Charger" ads? Didn't they point out that their air filters straighten air flow... eliminated or helped maintain laminar air flow?

Aren't turbulent and laminar fluid flow characteristics essentially opposite conditions with each being advantgeous under a specific set of circumstances?

What am I missing? Please help me understand.

Re: vortex generators

Well, I have no idea about these products, but your Fluid Flow theory is top notch. So, after agreeing with you on the theory I don't see how these products could help.

BTW, isn't part of the design theory behind the Crawford plenum minimizing turbulant air flow as well as balancing all the individual cylinders?

Maybe I am wrong, not sure.
