Question Regarding AEM Bypass Valve

I've read a few posts now mentioning the AEM Bypass Valve, and I find its apparent knack for preventing hydrolocking very appealing. I'm attempting to save up money for a 350Z intake duct and a Stillen CAI box, and I was wondering if this should be an addition to my purchase. Generally, when I hear about added safety and precautionary devices such as these I expect to hear drawbacks in power and sound, and I was curious if I am correct about this.

If anyone can enlighten me as to any drawback to this AEM Bypass Valve, it would be much appreciated.

Oh, and just as an addition, I live in South Florida, and if you're familiar with this part of the "Sunshine State," we get quite a few massive thunderstorms year-round.

Re: Question Regarding AEM Bypass Valve

Ok, the bypass valve is great for CAI where the air is pulled from down low behind the front bumper. If you are going the Z-Tube / Stillen route you won't need the bypass because the air will be pulled from basically the same place it currently is with the stock intake. The ram air effect you will get from the stillen / z-tube is a good combo and you do not need the AeM bypass... With a CAI I reccomend the bypass highly and there is no drawback from having it on there because it seals as tight as a drum if there is no obstruction to the cone filter.

Re: Question Regarding AEM Bypass Valve

Excellent - thank you very much for the information. I suppose this way I can hopefully save myself $50 then and avoid the apparently unnecessary valve in this case.

Re: Question Regarding AEM Bypass Valve

Why not just get the Nismo cai, it comes with a bypass.

Re: Question Regarding AEM Bypass Valve

Well, according to what Triji said, I wouldn't need a bypass valve with the Stillen box and Z duct combo to begin with. Would the Nismo CAI produce more substantial performance gains compared to the aforementioned combination?
