Flat black plastic! That thing is just plain ugly. WTF with the dumb logo in the middle of it.

the plastic idea is good, and so is the look of black plastic. as for the crawford, they say its quiter which may indicate that they have solved the problem with the air tumbling inside the plenum. i guess we wait for dynos and proposed gains to see which is better. hopefully LSD will come out with a plenum without the dip for the STB for us G people. maybe even more gains., who knows.

plastic = less heat soak. Less heat soak equals more Horespower. I could run my '01 Camaro SS for an hour straight, open up the hood and touch the intake without burning myself. The LS1 motor(camaro, corvette, etc) has a plastic intake, so does the Nissan Titan. And quite a few other cars. I think this plastic plenum is a damn good idea...we'll see. I'm anxiously awaiting dyno results.

I understand heat soak. I am not sure that one peice is going to make that much difference. I understand about your Camaro as well, but how much of that is attributable to the whole design of the engine and body versus a plastic intake. The amount of horespower you would gain from an improved heat soak from the top of an intake (the bottom is still metal) is probaly not measureable. I am interested to see how the plastic holds up mated to aluminum lower intake, through multiple heat cycles. I believe the Titan and the Camaro use a complete plastic intake, not half metal and half plastic.

Latest news from the My350Z forum;

"For the time being G35 and FX35 users might be happier with the Crawford unit because it should flow better (even though LSD says that the dip is very minimal). Although, a G35 owner may want to add a strut tower brace at a later period."

What Dip? Why would a G owner want to add a strut tower brace? We should add it b/c we have the plenum? COnfused!

Re: Lsdunique PLASTIC PLENUM DYNO Tomorrow!!!!

Somebody, I don't remember who or on what forum, did a very complete study on installing the STB (both the Nissan Stock and the Crawford). He came to the conclusion that it can't be done without major surgery. As I said, the study was very well documented. He ended up selling his Crawford STB on another forum.

I thought about this also, before I got the car. Now that I have my "G" for a year. The front end seems very stiff, and I don't see a need for one. I know a number of 350Zs with the Crawford are running without STBs, but most people want to keep them.

Strut tower brace (STB) stiffens the front end. Zs come with them stock. Gs don't have them. Plenum on the Z needs a "dip" to fit under the STB so people can keep their stock STB. This dip affects air flow inside the plenum. There is no dip in the Crawford plenum so theoretically improved airflow but you lose the STB if you own a Z.. Since Gs don't have to worry about the STB Crawford might be the better choice for them.

See if I can help. The LSD is designed specifcally for the 350Z and therefore has a "DIP" in it to accomodat the strut tower brace found on the 350Z. That dip in the front of the plenum may reduce air flow vs the Crawford. The front of the LSD plenum is lower than the Crawford. Crawford plenums on 350z's have to have modified strut bar braces installed.

Did I help or make it worse?

Yes, CAI's should help with even more power. Now, where is the dang DYNO on the LSDunique plenum?

Anyone?

The lack of fanfare is not a good sign.

Go with the Crawford airwarrior. There are still too many unknowns with the LSD. Remember you are only replacing the upper half of the plenum. A plenum that is half metal and half aluminum? Rather than dyno results, I would like to see the results of multiple heating/cooling cycles. The other plastic plenums on the road are 100% plastic.

the dyno will either happen this afternoon or at the latest Monday. The replacement plenum is to be delivered to all bark today. If it gets to him in time he will install it and get it dyno'd. The dyno shop is closed on the weekends. Of course, all this assumes the install goes well and there are no further problems.
