K&N CAI installed

Hey i just installed installed the K&N CAI over the weekend. The install took my friend about 3 hours it was an easy and straight forward install. after the install the first notice is the sound and the rev difference. the sound is so much better, its adds in abit from stock sounds perfect if u just something enchance stock sound a bit. the sound is alsome especially up past 5k rpm....its like wow...man because of the intake im burning my snow tires more often on the start...

and for the revs is much faster and willing to go higher rpm unlike stock...but i have found one problem that when during idle the rpm is not steady it goes up and down...do i need to reset the computer to fix this??Im gonna order the grounding kit today to fix that problem...and here are the pics...

Re: K&N CAI installed

Thanks for posting some pics. I look forward to doing mine as soon as it comes in.
I'd recommend doing the basic ECU reset as well as these resets:
-- Accellerator pedal release position learning
-- Throttle valve closed position learning
-- Idle air volume learning.

You'll find them all HERE.

Re: K&N CAI installed

On the topic of CAI offered by K&N, for the G35S, they offer a short ram intake and for the 350Z, the CAI is also short ram in design, with removal of stock airbox and some additional air duct work and heat shield, similar to JWT pop-charger. I wonder why they opted for a Complete cold air intake, ie. cone filter that sits low behind the front bumper for the G35C.

Re: K&N CAI installed

Is the reset, after a CAI install, really necessary?

What a the benefits/disadvantages of the reset?

I havent reset my ECU since my Injen CAI install. Nothing wrong so far, car drives fine.

Re: K&N CAI installed

Does anyone have the K&N short ram installed on the Sedan? I didn't know it came with a heat shield.

Re: K&N CAI installed

I installed my K&N Typhoon cai/sr sys. in 12/03. It took less
than 30min's. It does NOT come with a heat shield. I whould
like to know if the "pop charger" unit heat shield fit's? Only
becaues i live in Dallas. It get's Phoenix Hot here in July-
Sept.and sitting in traffic may(?) be a problem. Permance
wise i could not be happier! Price/Quality/ Installation/Sound/
and the fact that the silver matches my sedan makes this sys.
the one for me. I've used K&N filters for 20+years.
The JWT PopCharger w/heat shield plus 350Z intake tube
was not availsble when i bought a sys. I paid $170.oo for the
K&N, the JWT Pop.Ch.& 350Z int.tk are available from
Performance Nissan @$195.oo del. for those who wan't to
know. Both K&N and JWT-P.C.w/h.s.&350ZI.T. are Short Ram
sys. and Dyno more H.P. & Torque above 3000rpm. I hope my
rambling on was helpful to someone.

Re: K&N CAI installed

well thanx to gsedanman ....I have just done the reset for the ECU and everything you have mentioned...first of all so far it had take care of the rough idle problem, the idle sits a bit higher...just like stock had...
there is not draw back of the reseting ecu ...advantage so far its smoother idle, and just as good response from b4 i reset...the only disvantage is that people will look at u like and idiot dancing on the gas pedal...and its a bitch to do the timing well i needed a friend to time it for me.....
next mod...grounding kit then SSK

Re: K&N CAI installed

the K&N short ram for the Sedan does not come with heat shield. i actually contacted them about getting the coupe or 350Z version with the heatshield, and they said that it would not work as it was not designed for the sedan. go figure.
i have a set of dyno charts of my car showing a gain of 9 rwhp from the K&N short ram, but it was done by K&N so accuracy is arguable.

as for the resets, they can only help you. if your idle is too low or too high, your car will not perform at maximum and may act erratically when driving. perhaps the stalling issues, etc. and also, if you have no TS ECU, you may have to do that reset about every month or so.
