Just welcomed myself to the DIY: Headers club

Between g35driver and my350z, I was scared sh!tless to do this. I have done all sorts of engine work on classic cars, nothing really on moderns cars (K&N CAI on a 93 camaro, wow).

But I honestly really, really enjoyed it. I did not get frustrated as I took my time. I alloted Sunday and today for the entire install. If my arm got tired, I took a break and played Wii Tiger Woods 08 or drank some beer. Never did I feel rushed to "get the job done." It helps though too if you have a backup car just in case you don't finish.

I used the guide http://www.350zforum.com/tech/NISMOR...neheaders.aspx for the entire install. A few things to note though:

- On a 2006 G35c, you can get the heat shields out once they are unbolted. I couldn't imagine having to keep the heat shields in while trying to unbolt the stock exhaust manifold.

- Please, PLEASE spray down all of your exhaust manifold bolts (6 on each side) before you begin. Hell, spray them down 2 or 3 times, trust me. I did not spray the drivers side down and it seemed to take awhile longer. I did spray down the passengers side, and even with taking off the water pipe it seemed shorter. But then again, maybe I knew what to expect. This is with an 06 at 28k miles.

- Air tools are great but there is only so much to use them for. Removing the bolts of the exhaust crossmember, the connecting bolts between the cats and y-pipe for example. My air tools definitely did not fit in the engine bay(I didn't try but I know they wouldn't).

- With Megan Headers (don't worry when they crack I will repost), on the passengers side I found it necessary to remove the last 2 studs.

If that is the order of tightening the bolts back up, remove studs 3 and 5 (top left and bottom left). I could not get the header in at all without doing so. You can use a 1/4" socket attached to a 1/4" drive to easily get this off. Getting them on was a pain in the *** as you had to use a 1/4" wrench.

Again I really did enjoy the install. Test pipes will be in this week as well as my iso-thermal upgrade to my polished MREV2 + 1/2" spacer.

If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me.
