Horsepower and Install Question

I currently have a stock 03 5AT Sedan and want to add some power without going f/i. I am going to add a Z tube and K&N filter first. I have several post and seems like a Motordyne Spacer is a also a good choice. So here are my questions...

1) What amount of horsepower gain would be typical for this combo?

2) How hard is it to install a spacer? I am decent with a wrench, just have never down anything involving going inside of the engine.

3) Are there any other updrades that I should consider? I heard that a Plenium is not worth it on my model car.

Thanks in advanced. I have already searched a lot of info on the subject which has lead me to here.

you should check out Motordyne's website and call Tony. He's a wealth of knowledge concerning your questions.

Install is easy. Done it several times and only takes me about a 1/2 hour, once the car has cooled down. Just follow the direction and you'll be set..likely will you somewhere in the 1 1/2 hour range your first time.

Oh yea - get the Stillen CAI and z-tube...better performance all around. you can expect about 12-15 HP overall and about the same in TQ. If you tune for it, add another 10+HP. If your going to stay with minimal upgrades like this, get your exhaust handled as well and an ECU reflash.

Thanks for the info. I will check into the Stillen intake. What is involved in doing a ECU reflash?

You need to send your ECU to TEchnosquare. Where are you located? If Southern Cali, you can go there with an apointment to minimize downtime.

Also - there are other ways to tune your car, but the Technosquare flash is good to get, at least the L-Spec. If you are going to get another ECU - like a piggy back, you don't need their Full Spec re-flash.

OK, thanks for the info. I also going to get a coupe midpipe. I was looking at everythingg35.com and for the Z tube, K&N intake, spacer, and coupe midepipe they are charging about $650 rounded off. Which is not bad for about a 20-30hp gain. I am going to try to keep everything looking stock because I am going to trade it in around March for a M45. This is why I am going to stick with the stock airbox and no full exhaust upgrade.

Money is not really an issue or otherwise I would save it. I think the car has great power already and if I can add some more for that little bit, I think it is worth it. Plus I could always remove them and sell them used if I wanted.

Based on the makers, the combo would be over 20. The spacer alone is supposed to be 11-14hp. Now of coarse, I say of coarse since you should already know this, I am speaking at the flywheel and not at the wheels. Which is why I stated hp, not rwhp.

I just got back from Forged Performance in Marietta, GA and I get get all of that from them for $495. He is selling me the midpipe for $100, which is what is really saving me money. So that is a Z tube, K&N filter, Motordyne 5/16 spacer, and coupe midpipe. I say that is a deal.

I am fully aware, the same as going by the 260hp that the engine generates when I am probably in the 230's at the wheel. With all upgardes, I expect to get only 10-12hp off it. Not a noob to performance, only to the G35. I own Dynamic Sound...a car audio, video, and peformance company. Most of my performance work was been on Honda's, not much experience with Nissan, which is why I have the questions.
