Low Idle after Pop Charger Install?

I noticed after installing the pop charger and z-tube that my G now has an idle of roughly 700 rpm. This seems pretty low to me. Before the ECU was reset, the car would not idle at all, and would die. After the ECU reset, it idles fine and drives great.

I never paid too much attention to the idle before, but for some reason I thought it idled at about 1000 rpm.

I compared my car to GEOBAU's last night, which is stock, and we were getting around the same idle.

I just want to make sure something isn't wrong. However, I'm happy to say the I definitely noticed a nice difference in power after adding the Z-tube and popcharger. I can easily burn up the my 20's in 2nd gear and most of the way through 3rd now.

Dude, i hope your car wasn't idling at 1000 rpms...thats way tooo high when the car is warm and at idle. Mine usualyl idles about 600, maybe a little less. But then again i don't have a intake yet..still stock.

If the idle still bothers you, just keep resetting the ecu..maybe that will help.

Re: Low Idle after Pop Charger Install?

One of the very first mods I did was a ground wire kit for the engine. I noticed that seemed to lower the idle a bit and made it much smoother. When I added the z-tube and pop charger recently, there was no further change in idle speed. That's all on a 6MT.

Their is something to your observation. In my auto sedan, prior to Pop Charger/Z-Tube install, you could back up on a flat surface or ease away from a full stop without really having to depress the accelerator. The first few drives after install, I would put it into reverse to back out of my garage or be in stop and go traffic and the car would almost die as you describe if I let it try to go on its own. I didn't notice the RPM decrease but it didn't take long for the ECU to adjust. All is back to normal now.

I really like these two mods.

600 to 700 RPM, if you aren't stalling out at stops after driving or climbing gears, is ideal for a V6 and very efficient...As long as it isn't rough and not dying everything is cool...STOP DOUBTING MY INSTALL! j/k

Re: Low Idle after Pop Charger Install?

the coupe's idle rpm is about 650 (make sure you read the marks correctly on the tach - plus the tach can be off by a few rpm)

This is controlled by the ECU, so air intake mods and grounding wire kits should have no affect on warm-engine idle RPM's.

SNM: I don't doubt your installation capabilities at all. I was with you for the entire EIGHT HOURS!!!!

(Me rubbing it in)

Again, the instructions are complete dog poop, and anyone who says otherwise can shizzle my nizzle.

Thanks again SNM for a perfect installation.

Re: Low Idle after Pop Charger Install?

Best time to check your engine idle is after complete warmup and driving for a while, battery has to be fully charged, and no accessories or lights on. A/T in Park, & 6M/T in neutral.
The spec from the service manuals is: 650 +/- 50 RPM -- (A/T & 6 M/T).
Bear in mind that the tach may be off slightly as RR said.
My A/T coupe idles anywhere from 600-700 RPM's.

Re: Low Idle after Pop Charger Install?

I noticed my sedan was idleing at 400 rpm the other night
as I was waiting for my daughter. This was after a 25 mile
drive. 1000 is way to high.

400 RPM sounds very low to me. Are you sure you're reading the tach properly? The reason I ask is that many have misread it and thought the circled RPM (See attach.) is 400 when in fact it is 700.
I marked the actual 400 RPM level, as well as my normal idle levels as reference,
