Exhaust help please

I'm looking into getting an exhaust for my car, I would like to get a used one, and save some cash, if I find a good one. I wanted to know if a dent in an exhaust will affect its performance. Not a huge dent, but one that is big enough to see. One of the exhausts I'm looking at has a dent in it, and I would rather not buy an exhaust that is going to be losing me power. Let me know ASAP.

Thanks,

-Tom

Also does anyone know what 350z exhausts, if any, fit the G35 coupe?

I don't think a small dent will cause a lose in HP, and if it did it should be no more than 1 WHP. (I could be wrong, but I think that unlikely)

A 350Z exhaust is too short to work on a G35 (I think by 6 inches), however I do know that the XO2 (HKS wannabe) has extension pipes. In the picture they are the pipes on the top right corner.

Yes that is correct if you buy a 350z exhaust you will need to have it extended, and no a dent unless it is significant wont be much if any differeance

^^ I cant get an exhaust that is true dual, because I have a single turbo, and I would have to make a reverse Y-pipe. So you guys dont think that a dent in the exhaust would cause the exhaust to perform poorly???? My top pick right now is the Fujitsubo.

It seems to me Fujitsubo makes a single exhaust for the G35 called the Legalis R

Look here

CityMonkey, thats my number one pick as of now, because it is basically the G35 Nismo exhaust.

It does kinda look like the Nismo cat-back.

Now let me get this straight, you are look for a single pipe exhaust for your G. Your top pick is the Fujitsubo Legalis R, and you found one. However it's from a 350Z therefore you are not sure it will fit and it has a baseball size dent on the muffler.

If that is right, I know for a fact the 350Z and G35 Legalis R, can't be swapped. Now for the dent, I would need a cutaway picture of the muffler, to make my decision if it causes a loss of power. (Which I think is unlikely)

The the first was filmed in Manhattan, with the red light on 12th Ave and 57th Street. It just made me home sick

AHAH Very Close, the exhaust is actually for a G35, so there is no fitment issues, the 350z question is for another exhaust im looking at.

My main concern is the dent on the fujitsubo, because that is my number one choice. Also FYI the Nismo exhaut is made by Fujitsubo, thats why they are so similar.

I didn't know that

Now back to the dent, if the exhaust flow is similar to the muffler picture here, a dent in the back would have on effect. (The muffler just act as a housing assy)

Now if the muffler is similar to this kind, you might had a small problem. (But ever than I don't think it will cause a major loss of power)

^^ Thanks for all of the diagrams, I think I might send an e-mail to Fujitsubo and see what they say, I'm going to say that I own the exhaust and it got a dent, not that I'm looking at buying a used one, because then I'm sure they will tell mejust to buy new. Mabe they can tell me what the inside of the canister looks like, because I dont think too many people cut them open just for fun. Thanks citymonkey, you have defn helped alot. Still if anyone has more info on this subject I will take it.

My shops is kinda giving me the hint that getting an exhaust with a dent might not be the best idea, and they know what they are talking about. But idk, its a good deal might just buy it to use for now.

Did you find out how big the dent is, and where??
