The 2nd time will be faster.
Mechanical "know-how" isnt as necessary in this DIY, as compared to patience. Mechanically, its about as straight forward as changing out CATS. But like everyone knows, there is almost no room, esp. on the passenger side. So on the passanger side, you'll have to remove some radiator hoses to be able to get at the bolts holding the header in. Driver side is a bit easier. YOu just have to remove the intake for access at the bolts holding in the header. But you prob. will have to unbolt the steering column to get that biatch out. I did.
I would recommend changing out the cats at the same time as changing out the headers for a good reason. An OEM cat has two threaded stubs that go into the header flange. Now getting at those with nuts and torqueing them to specs is a biatch.. With aftermarket HFCs, they tend to just give you 3 bolts w/nuts [3 bolts per cat for "header to cat"/10 in total]. Those are a hell of alot easier to torque down IMO.
In the end, this project took me and my friend about 12-15 hours over 3 days, because we were doing this after work. Prob. would have be less if we did it in one straight shot.
IMHO... i was happy with the results [gains/sound] [Im sure i havent felt the true gains until i get tuned]. And This project was a PITA, but it was also a good learning experience.
Take this post for what its worth. Its just my $.02
