Installed Borla TD on my 03 Sedan

Hey guys,

I installed a slightly used Borla TD on my 03 sedan last week and I wanted to share my impressions.

Before putting on the exhaust, I was running a stock 03 exhaust with an 05/06 sedan mid-pipe.

Here is a pic of the system before it went on:

First thing I noticed is the quality construction. Even though the exhaust was used, all of the components looked and felt like new. Everything fit well, and the slip design makes it easy to adjust and mount the pieces.

Here are some pics after I finished the installation:

Impressions
My first observation is how great the tips look. They stick out a little but more than the stock exhaust, and they are bigger and polished. They look great, and they are noticeable yet subtle.

When I started it up for the first time, I noticed that the exhaust is louder at idle for sure. Once on the road it drones a little in between 1500 and 2500rpms, but it's nothing too serious. The tone is deeper all around. On a cold day, it's clearly louder than my previous setup, but on warm days it sounds almost like the old system.

Overall, I really like it. It has a great tone and it's noticeable but not annoying. I feel more power above 4500/5000 all the way to redline. It seems to be more responsive and rev faster esp. top end.

I will take the car to the dyno soon to see if I got any gains.

For reference, I have a Motordyne 1/2", Z-tube with and Amsoil dry filter, Gordgee's 5AT 10-wire kit, and the Borla TD as my mods (the spacer and the exhaust being the only real power mods).

I realy liked the perf. of the Borla when I had one.
Sound was magic .....but the drone eventually got to me.

Congrats. I'm a borla sedan owner also. I wrote a few big threads about it. I'm trying to figure out my next move to increase the hp of this system and eliminate the drone. Or at the very least alter the drone rpm range to somewhere out of the auto shift/cruise rpm.

Yeah, I can see it getting a little annoying after a while. For now, I'm pretty happy with it.

I used to have a GTI VR6, and my exhaust on that had a good bit of drone down low, so I guess I'm used to it.

I know that some people change to an x-pipe? Either way, it'll be interesting to see how good the Motordyne exhaust system range will be. If it shows significant dyno proven gains, I might switch to that.

Did you switch to another aftermarket system, or did you go back to stock?
