Skunk2 or Motordyne???? which Spacer to get?
Skunk2 or Motordyne???? which Spacer to get?
if i just want a top plenum spacer, 1/2", which is the best one? i've hear Skunk2 and Motordyne.... i don't want the whole iso-thermal kit, just the top spacer....
Most are going to say Motordyne, but I have Skunk 2 and have no problems with it. I installed differently than the directions. I used a second plenum gasket (I cut the middle out) instead of silicone and I forgot to use thread lock on the bolts so I have to re-torque them occasionally.
il'm not very mechanically inclined, that's why i'm considering a spacer, it seems easy, i found this easy installation guide which comes with instructions on how to make the engine cover fit better with the 1/2' spacer.

MotorDyne FTW!
I have no idea what the difference is but the consensus on this forum is that MotorDyne is the way to go and there are a lot of people on here who are more informed than I am so I followed them.
The install is not hard but you need to be aware that it can be difficult to disconnect some of the coolant hoses and you HAVE to properly torque the bolts. I went ahead and picked up an inch/lbs torque wrench which added to the total cost of the project but it made me feel more comfortable with the install. Maybe you can rent one from a parts store instead of purchasing like I did.

they both do the same thing. Motordyne just has more of a crowd and R&D oh yeah dont forget the higher price too. I would go with motordyne just cause they did the r&D and i give my credit to those guys that do.

That install guide is somewhat specific to that spacer brand. Check out MotorDyne's website, they also have detailed installation instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions for the one you buy but you can take some tips from other installs. For example suspending the upper plenum so you do not have to disconnect the most difficult to reach coolant hose. I really wish I had thought of doing that.
Depending on what you are looking for out of the spacer, you may want to consider the 5/16" spacer. It offers you more power (more useable power) in the low and mid-range while the 1/2" will give you more top end.
I too, went with Motordyne. Easy install, just take your time

Please explain this too me, i thought the bigger the space in the plenum, the more air-flow and power, period....
Check out MotorDyne's website, they have Dynos posted. 5/16 increases HP over the lower RPM range. 1/2 increases HP over the higher RPM range and at WOT produces more power. I got the 1/2 because it produces a deeper exhaust note.

Just my $.02
From the info i looked at, it looks like the 5/16" spacer will give more acceleration off the start, but the 1/2" will give more power when already moving........ i will go with the 5/16" because i don't plan to rev my engine up past 4000rpm's and that's where the 1/2" power really starts... i want more power in the 2000-3000 rpm range
I have done both a motordyne and skunk2 spacer install.
They both make power. If you can get the skunk2 for cheap do it, but based on installation I'd do the Motordyne so you dont have to bother with using silicone or just by a 2nd gasket like 5150DS did.
good luck!
