K&N Drop in Users....

Any problems with MAF? I've heard about this twice now but not in context of the G...The injen had an oiled filter and that was never a problem. My MAF is clean as a whistle after 10,000 miles of Injestation....

Is this possibly because of over-oiling??

Re: K&N Drop in Users....

I ran my K&N drop-in for over a year with no problems. I think the problems with the MAFs are with ppl over-oiling after a cleaning. Also, some think that the filter is dry when the colour is gone and re-oil then. The colour is to help you determine even coverage on the filter medium, not when it needs re-oiling, so says K&N tech support.

Re: K&N Drop in Users....

i plan on getting the drop-in soon... k&n makes the best filters ive ever seen, and lifetime warranty. this should not mess up your car or have problems with the MAF... everybody supports k&n drop-ins, i think its even covered under warranty...

Re: K&N Drop in Users....

I only have 2k miles on my drop in but there are no problems. It is maintaining very well (still looks brand spanking new). I had heard about the MAF issue before and had considered just buying a new drop in vs cleaning it and re-using it. We'll see how the first re-oil goes and how good the absorbsion is once the filter is cleaned.

I would recomend the drop in to anyone with the z-tube. It compliments it very well.

Re: K&N Drop in Users....

I have 32,000 miles on my drop in with two cleanings now. Zero problems. I ran a K&N drop in on my 3.5 altima (the one with the super sensitive MAF sensor) for 40,000 miles and had no problems. I had a Monster Flow dry foam filter on for 300 miles on the altima and blew my MAF. So no problems with the K&N drop in during 72,000 miles on my VQ35DE's.

Thier reputation does seem impeccable the more I dig. It's seemingly a great addition to my mod list so far and having major leauge support from guys with some stature around here keeps my nights sleep filled.

Re: K&N Drop in Users....

I have K/N drop-in with a totally stock intake. I put it in right out of the box 4 months ago since it is pre-oiled from the factory. No problems, but no perceptible performance gain either. I just cleaned and re-oiled it and actually noticed better throttle response and acceleration. I cant explain it, but it seems real. If I was to buy another one, I would clean and oil myself before going in the first time.

Re: K&N Drop in Users....

First I dropped in the K&N filter (without oiling it since the directions say it's all set out of the box for about 30k-50k mi.) and noticed the "whoop" air-sucking sound it made when I stepped on the accelerator (which definitely wasn't there with the stock filter); not sure about any actual performance or HP increase with just the K&N, but it really did sound better.

Then, a few days later, I switched out my stock air intake for a Z tube and...WOW!! The sound and power increase was very evident (especially above 3,500 RPM). If you haven't already done it, many (including myself) would definitely recommend adding the 350Z tube. The Z tube/K&N combo seem to outperform many other mods including some CAIs, according to some recent dyno tests and owner experiences. Not to steal a phrase, but someone else here on these threads once said that the Z tube's thunderous sound is "intoxicating." He hit the nail on the head with that statement. ;-) Enjoy!

Re: K&N Drop in Users....

so with the K&N and Z-Tube there would be no problem like the A/C line melting or getting a little hole like the people who used a pop-charger and injen CAI? Is this because the stock airbox holds the Z-tube firmly away from the A/C line?
