Newbie G owner with intake question...^^
Newbie G owner with intake question...^^
Dear all:
After waiting for more than 6 months, with many people's helps here, I finally targetted dealorship at Costa Mesa and got my G last week... And since I never owned a real sports car, I was thrilled by its performance (just so much better than my accord V6)
I drove my friend's CLS before but this is entirely different... I guess FWD and RWD does make a huge difference... @_@
I have some questiona bout getting a good intake... there are so many brands out there.. and I have seen many of you getting pop charger.. what do you guys feel about pop charger? any negative comment?
Is it gonna be a lot more noiser or? Does it save you some gas (someoen told me that intake saves gas, not sure if i was bsed...)
As for Nissan OEM Z Tube, I do not really understand the description of this product on everythingg35 . com
"This pipe replaces the factory pipe between the Throttle Body and Mass air flow sensor. The stock G35 pipe has sound baffles and other features that the Z tube does not have. The Z tube will increase induction noise under WOT. *IN STOCK* "
What does it mean that the stock G35 has features that Z tube does not have? Doesn't that make a G stock tube better?
Pleaes dont flame me because i am horrible using search engine, so I figure the best way to get the best answer is to ask directly =)
Moreover, dang this car drinks gas like water... I can only drive around 280~290 miles with 30~35% time use of sports shift (is there a special term for nissan?

Re: Newbie G owner with intake question...^^
My only comment about this modification is to be sure you note the location of the new intake against the AC line. There have been many reports of people rubbing and sometimes cutting that line.
Re: Newbie G owner with intake question...^^
The Z tube is a straight thru intake pipe with no resonators on it. The G intake tube I think has 2. The air flow is disrupted when going into the plenum which results in loss of power. By how much I don't know? If you compare it side by side you will understand what all this mean. As far as the pop charger is concerned I am not a big fan of it. That's all I'm going to say on this cus I know a lot of people love this mod. Again people this is just my personal opinion no flame intended.
As far as your mileage is concerned wait until you reach about 2500 miles. The power and and mileage will increase significantly. I was doing the same thing horrible gas mileage when my car was new. Now I get about 400 miles a tank. Goodluck on your modding the intake is just the start. Once you get it going it will never end. LOL!

Re: Newbie G owner with intake question...^^
Thanks for the reply
I just replaced to 7000k xtec HID bulbs and clear corner for my G today, and the owner told me getitng a K&N filter is good enough
Oh wellz, I love the G rims and exhausts... therefore I probably wont replace them...I think I probably will do some mods on stereos and outlook instead of performance wise because i am very happy with my G's power =)
Next ill do is tinting my windows and change my speakers.... I really want to get the side mirror with turn signal though ... arghh~~
But, will we get 400 miles full tank? I dont think so... I mean, if I can get 300+ miles with engagement of sportshift most of the time, then I am happy enough =)

Re: Newbie G owner with intake question...^^
WOW! I'm lucky to get 280 miles and some fumes on my 6mt. I got about 4.5k on the odometer. When I first got the car, it was more like 260 miles a tank so I think it's getting better.
As for mods, I haven't done any yet, but I've heard stuff about the Z-tube and pop charger. Can't really speak to any appreciable performance boost, but more noticeably will be the more aggressive induction noise past 4k RPM which I hear is awesome. Do note the warning about the Z-tube AC line rub. You'll need to make sure that the tube is not touching or is in very close proximity to cause continual abrasion while driving which can lead to the line breaking. Probably a safer bet is to go with the NISMO branded mods as they are from Nissan. Look up the new NISMO CAI.
Good Luck!

FYI,
The Nismo CAI, v2 with the integrated MAF, will rub awfully close to the large hose adjacent to the A/C line. This part, and other Nismo parts, are designed for the Z and aren't necessarily direct fits for the G.

Yeah, I was happy with my G's power for about 600 miles. After you get use to it, you want more. I am happy with my Injen intake and the dealership told me I was perfectly legal as far as warranty was concerned. That is with catback exhaust, intake, and pulley.
